Chapter 4 Is She Worthy of a Healthy Husband?

Chris' tall and slender figure trembled slightly. He seemed to have heard a joke and laughed indifferently, then asked, "How long?"

How long could she live? How much time would it take for her to disappear from his world?

A thousand arrows pierced her heart, but she had grown accustomed to it.

Arianna couldn't even feel her heart beating beneath her chest anymore. She managed a numb smile and replied, "Ten days."

For me, my life will end when we divorce and I can no longer see you.

Chris' eyes showed confusion. Why was she so fixated on ten days?

Ten days were short, but for him, each day felt like a year.

Just as he was about to ask, Arianna continued in a calm and persistent tone, "If you don't want me to be Mrs. Grimes forever, then don't see Chelsea for these ten days."

Chris was furious, but he endured it. He knew that in ten days, he would undergo a corneal transplant surgery. On that day, he would immediately divorce her.

Ignoring Arianna, Chris had his assistant waiting in the car help him into the house.

He didn't pay attention to the woman behind him, curled up in agony. She dared not make a sound, instead biting her lip until it bled, her face pallid.

Arianna felt as though countless needles were stabbing her brain, and it seemed as if a heavy hammer was pounding inside her skull. Just then, the image of Chris and Chelsea embracing flashed in her mind, intensifying the pain.

She was trying to shift her focus away from the agony by banging her head on the ground.

"Thud, thud, thud..."

Chris' assistant came out, seeing the scene, and was shocked. "Madam, what's wrong? I'll call for emergency medical help!"

He was about to dial the phone when a hand, cold to the touch, stopped him.

Arianna was deathly pale, with horrifying bruises on her forehead, and her entire body was soaked, as if she had been pulled from water.

"It's fine. Carry on with your work."

She swayed as she walked, heading inside the house, her footsteps unsteady.

The assistant was somewhat anxious but understood that the problems between this couple were not within his authority to resolve. He shook his head and drove away.

In the city center, at a revolving restaurant.

Chelsea had arranged to meet Arianna and got straight to the point. "Mrs. Grimes, it's been two years; you should return him to me."

Faced with her candid demand, Arianna, unafraid, asked, "Have you divorced him?"

"How did you know?" Chelsea was taken aback.

She had prepared a lot to say, but under Arianna's insightful gaze, she couldn't hide anything.

"When our two families intended to unite, I didn't know Chris had a girlfriend. After our engagement was announced, you quickly left the country, and on the way to the airport, Chris had an accident, which resulted in his blindness."

"I went to France to find you, only to see you marrying someone else in a church."

Chelsea's face turned red. "You told Chris?"

Arianna narrowed her eyes and inquired nonchalantly, "You were adamant about not coming back two years ago. What's your purpose now?"

These words struck at Chelsea's most sensitive nerve. She grabbed her bag, her expression angry, and stood up.

"We have nothing more to discuss."

Arianna felt despondent, and even if Chelsea had a hidden agenda, she couldn't concern herself with it anymore.

After leaving the restaurant, Chelsea looked at Arianna through the glass window, a malicious glint appearing in her eyes. "Just you wait!"

When Arianna returned to the villa, it was already dark.

She looked at the light on the second-floor study and silently calculated. Five days, 120 hours, she wouldn't leave Chris for a single moment.

She quietly ascended the stairs and heard voices from the study, so she went over.

"Chelsea has returned. What are you planning to do?"

The voice's owner, whom Arianna was familiar with, was Chris' cousin, Johnathan Cabrera.

"Get the corneal transplant done as soon as possible; there are only five days left." The usually indifferent male voice sounded pleased, making Arianna's nose tingle.

Johnathan was helpless and reproachful as he continued, "Is it really necessary? Two years ago, it could have been cured with medication, but you insisted on not taking it, resulting in the need for a corneal transplant."

"Being unable to see allows me to better torment that woman. You should see her pitiful and guilty expression," Chris responded casually. "Does she deserve a healthy husband?"

Arianna, standing at the door, felt as if she had been struck by lightning. She leaned against the wall, struggling to stay on her feet.
