CHAPTER 4 :
I close the door, and I suddenly hear a shriek. It's Mark and he's shouting! Oh my god, what happened? I quickly take out my pocket knife, as I get out of my room. Mark's door appears to be shut from inside. Jesus, what do I do?
I knock on Jamie's door, hoping he'd answer.
"Jamie, open the door!" I whisper. Immediately, with a faint creak, the door opens, revealing a scared Jamie.
"Something is wrong with this town, Grey. I'm so scared. Is Mark...?" He sobs.
I reassure him as we pound on Mark's door, but no answer. Sweat is trickling down my forehead, as I analyse my next move.
"Jamie, we need to break the door." I calmly tell him.
"Let's wake Tristan up!" He says, frantically gasping for breath.
"No. What if Mark is just pranking us? Let's not wake Tristan up before knowing the graveness of the situation." I try to sound as logical as possible.
"Okay. Let's do it then." He and I take a few steps back, as we rush towards the door, and it opens up with a slam.
To our horror, we find that Mark is lying on the floor, lifeless, surrounded with a pool of his own blood and there's a creature standing next to his body. With fangs protruding out his lips, blood is dripping down from his teeth, as he gives us a menacing grin. Jamie and I are too paralyzed in shock, to actually react to this situation.
A vampire! It's a vampire! All those animal attacks people speak about, are actually incidents about these beasts hunting down innocent people. I shake my head with disgust, as I pounce on him, making him land on the floor.
"Argh! Get off me, you mortal piece of shit." He struggles under my weight.
"Yeah? You just killed my friend, you piece of filth! Now just see what I do to you!" I hiss at him with gritted teeth.
He grabs me by the neck, as he gets me off him and throws me towards a wooden table.
I land on the table, breaking it in several pieces. My back hurts. Holy shit, these creatures are powerful, just as the mythological books about them say.
Jamie is still standing frozen on the spot, as the vampire steps closer and closer to him. I need to do something!
Yes! If the books about vampires are true, then so is the fact about them drying if they're staked in the heart.
I quickly get up from the ruins of the broken table, as I pick up a broken shard of wood and move that hand behind my back.
I run towards the creature who is now dangerously close to Jamie, as I grab him by the collar, and before he could react, I plunged that stake inside his heart. The vampire falls on the ground, as his skin turns from a deathly pale white, to a dark ashen colour.
I flop down on the floor, barely managing to contain my adrenaline rush. Jamie hugs me from behind.
"Daemon! Oh my god, you saved my life! I thought, you would...we would...die." He stifles a sob.
"I would never let you die, Jam." I speak, panting.
"Mark! What do we do with Mark? Is he...dead?" Jamie murmers as tears trickle down his cheeks.
I lift myself up, as I go to check Mark's pulse, but neither does he breathe nor does he have a pulse.
"He's gone...Jam. He's gone." I say, as I blanch and bile riles to my throat. I don't know what to do. I'm...I'm...lost.
"Oh my god." He hugs me, as he places his head on my chest and keeps crying.
All of a sudden, we both feel a pang of a syringe. Behind my back, and behind Jamie's neck. It's a tranquilizer dart!
Oh no...Oh no...and darkness consumes me.
