CHAPTER 12 :

He sits down beside me, as he rubs the palm of my hand. Dravon enters in as well.

"What the hell is going on!?" He shouts at us, and Alex immediately withdraws his hand.

"Privacy." I declare, my voice cold and distant.

"What??" Dravon almost shouts at me.

"I said, I need privacy, Dravon Dark." I remark, my voice unwavering. He scoffs as he storms out of the room.

"Are you his husband?" Alex finally asks me, gazing deep into my eyes.

"Yes. I am. And, it's complicated." I sigh. Yeah, very complicated.

"I'm sorry, if I made the issues worse. Dravon seems furious about me being close to you." He speaks, his tone low and soothing.

"Don't pay him any attention. I can never thank you enough for saving my life." I smile at him. And he takes out a pen and paper from his pocket as he scribbles down something on it.

"That's my number. You know, you can call me anytime." He grins at me, as he turns to leave.

"Until we meet again." I say, scanning his movements with my eyes.

"Until we meet again." He replies, and there is a urge in the voice. And he walks away.

My god, today was a complete disaster for me. I pity myself, as I turn to the other side of the bed. And, someone knocks on the door.

"Come in." I speak out the permission for the person to enter.

Dravon enters inside the room, and takes a seat near the bed.

"So? Found anything about the curse?" He says with a stoic expression.

"Seriously? You're that inhumane? I almost got killed and sprained my ankle, and all you care about is the investigation?" I shout at him, annoyed. Does he have no heart at all? Jesus Christ. He brings out the worst in me.

"I don't need to worry about the fact if you do end up getting killed or not. Because, your werewolf “friend” seems to protect you well." He replies, hissing when he says the word “friend”. Can someone tell me the fuck is wrong with him?

"Can you just behave like a civilized person for once? He saved my life, and the least I can do is, be thankful to him for doing that." I say, as I spot him roll his eyes.

"Anyways, I'm calling a council meeting tomorrow with 3 other vampire masters. Spencer King, Olivia Parker and Thomas Avery. You're to be present as well." His tone cools down a bit.

"I'll be there." I reply, running a hand through my hair. He gets up from the couch, as he sits beside me on the bed.

"I'm sorry." He murmurs, as he tilts my face towards him. What? He? And apologising? Tell me that I'm dreaming. This can't be true.

"Sorry for what?" I arch an eyebrow at him. I still can't believe that he said “sorry”.

"For letting you believe that I..." He trails off, brushing my lower lip with his thumb. And for a moment, it seemed like he's going to kiss me.

"Listen, just keep your distance from me. Don't get too close to me. I'm not the man for you. I've to let you go." His voice is a breathless echo and before I could say anything, he's out of the door.

Is this just physical attraction, and nothing else? But why does he want to keep me away from him? What is he so afraid of? What is so dark and deranged about him, that it turned him this way?

Why does he always drive me away? I guess, I'll try to find out. I should really keep my distance from him. Because, I must not end up falling for him, because if I do, I'm gonna end up in a cage, crying for the rest of my life. And, I don't want that. Anything but that.

Yet, deep down, a part of me does know that the inevitable is near. Very near.
