Chapter 6: Pie Fighters, Pie Lovers
Chapter 6: Pie Fighters, Pie Lovers
“I LIKE YOU.”
With a troubled smile on her face, she just disappeared from me after I told her that I like her. Did I say it wrong or it's just because she doesn't like me?
When I told Dwayne about Amara's reaction, he just laughed at me and he kept on teasing me because he got to hang out with Amara while all I could do was stare and look at her from a distance. Gray and Miranda, on the other hand, have no idea yet of what's happening. Today is our third day at Off The Cliff Foundation and Amara kept on ignoring me since yesterday.
It was morning yesterday when I told her my feelings for her. With cups of coffee in our hands, while we were hugged by the cold breeze of the morning, I confessed to her.
I can't forget how she looked at that moment. She seemed so troubled and lost after my confession. She was surprised, yes, but I think not in a good way. She was just shocked and tried to smile, but a troubled one and then she ran away. What's so wrong? We have known each other for months already.
“I'm done being kind to her,” I humorlessly joked to Dwayne when he walked up to me.
Dwayne snorted to laughter because of what I said. “I know you would never,” he teased. He tapped my shoulder and said, “You scared her. Don't be a jerk and let her have her time.”
“I scared her?!” I frowned and then I realized that my voice became suddenly high. “Why would she be scared?”
Dwayne shrugged. “Who knows what's going on inside her mind? Let her absorb all the shits that happened. She won't just avoid you, by the way. I know she's sorting things out.”
I sighed. Dwayne's right, I need to give her time to decide. She had a hard time deciding whether she would accept me as her friend before. As much as I want to take our friendship to a whole new level, I know she has to think about it thoroughly and I know she's thinking of what might be best for the both of us. But what if she thinks that we are better off as just friends? What am I going to do?
I JUST SPENT the day watching everyone do their own things. They are all participating in the activities conducted by the council and they are all having fun.
“You better join them, too,” the lady called Ms. Caroline suggested.
I sighed and shook my head. “Nah, they need a photographer,” I said and nodded in the direction where Dwayne is.
“I can do that,” Ms. Caroline offered.
“I'm good here, thank you,” I said, flashing Ms. Caroline a smile to reassure her that I am fine.
I looked back at everyone and continued watching them. My eyes landed on Amara who looked really happy while playing with the children of the OTC Foundation. I can't ruin that smile so I just decided to stay here and keep my distance from her. The last time I tried to get along with them, Amara almost locked herself in her room. Seemed like she didn't want to see me since yesterday.
“Okay, next players!” Gray announced excitedly.
They are now playing the Pie in the Face game and they are all laughing out loud. They are all enjoying the game and while I watch them from a distance, I can't help but laugh as well.
I was laughing when I caught Gray's eyes and then I realized that he was planning something. Gray whispered to Miranda and Miranda looked curious. Then Miranda distanced from Gray and the next thing I knew, they were giggling already. Dwayne approached them, clueless about what they were laughing about. Gray and Miranda nodded at each other before Miranda went to Amara.
Dwayne looked at me after Gray whispered to him. Dwayne just shrugged and grinned. His hands gestured to Gray to go on or just do whatever the fuck he wants and it feels like I'm sweating already. I have never been nervous like this in my life.
There was a wide smile on Gray's face when he ran towards me. Conscious that he might do something, I remained on guard.
“What?” I asked Gray.
He just smirked at me and grabbed my hand. He pulled me towards the group and I saw Miranda pulling Amara towards us. Dwayne put his arm on mine and Amara's shoulders.
“Whatever the shit happening between the two of you, settle it here,” Dwayne told us, shifting his gaze to me and then Amara, back and forth.
I gazed towards Amara and I caught her gaze as well. She's blushing and I know what's in her mind. She wants to bail out from whatever the hell they are planning to do.
“I'm sorry, but I'm out of this one,” I told them. “I kind of have an errand to do?”
“Oh, please, fuck the bullshit,” Gray retorted but we all hit him on his head because he just cursed in such a peaceful place. He cleared his throat and continued. “It's just a Pie in the Face game. What are you so afraid of?”
Dwayne and Miranda snorted to laughter. But when I shot a glare towards them, they immediately held back their laughter. I even caught Miranda trying to swallow her laughter literally.
“And we know the two of you very well,” Gray continued. Is he not done yet? “You ignore each other when you don't get along much about something. Come on and man up.”
“You're the one to talk, huh?” I scoffed.
Gray suddenly hit me with his elbow and then acted like nothing happened. I gripped his shoulder as I endured the pain in my stomach. This motherfucker won't get away from what he did.
“I-I think Cole's already good with the game,” Gray said, trying to sound as if he isn't hurting because of my grip.
I released him finally and just sighed heavily. They are all waiting and I want to spare myself and everyone from the drama so I will just go with their plan.
“Well, yeah,” Amara sighed. “I'm in.”
“Yeah!” Miranda and Gray shouted.
“That's our girl,” Gray said and he threw his arms around Amara's shoulder.
Dwayne removed his arm from Amara's shoulders as Gray started goofing around with Amara.
“You better kill this one,” I heard Gray say, pointing his thumb towards me.
I just rolled my eyes at them. Truth be told, I can't take their closeness. Maybe not until Amara and I are already good. Tsk. Such a jealous shit, why am I like this?
“OKAY, IN THREE, two and one,” Gray counted excitedly. “Fight!”
As soon as he said the cue, we started smashing the buttons as hard as we could so we could avoid the pie getting to our faces. This shit is making me nervous as hell but Amara seems to be so determined and enjoying the game.
The battle gets more intense when in fact it's just a pie-in-the-face game for fuck's sake. It's like I'm pouring my soul onto this for the sake of my life. I don't even know why.
“Easy,” I heard Amara while she's biting her lip and smashing the button. “Is that how much you want that pie on my face?”
I was caught off guard when she chuckled. This is the first time since yesterday that she talked to me! I didn't notice that I stopped smashing the button until I felt the pie land on my face. Oh shit. She got me, in this game and more than anything else.
“I won!” Amara screamed and even threw a punch in the air.
Gray and Miranda ran towards Amara and hugged her. They even ran in a circle and the other children joined them when Gray gestured to them, too. He even pulled Dwayne to join them who was just shaking his head on the side.
I was left there wiping the pie off my face while they were all laughing at me. They are all teasing me that I can't win over Amara. They stopped running in circles and Gray rushed to me, laughing his ass off.
I glared at him but he didn't seem to care because he can't even stop himself from laughing. To shut him up, I reached the pie on the paper plate and smashed it on his face. He was caught off guard, now it's my turn to laugh with the other kids. I made sure that I had enough pie in my hand when I ran towards Miranda.
Miranda looked terrified but I won't let her get away from laughing at me. She started running and hiding but the athlete in me can easily catch up with her. I was able to catch her and put the pie all over her face.
“Ugh, Cole!” She screamed and I just laughed.
I was laughing to death when another pie landed on my face. Dwayne just shrugged and then smirked at me. Aha, this fucker wanted war. I ran to him as fast as I could and I crashed into him. We stumbled on the ground with Dwayne facing down and I quickly sat on his back while he was struggling to get up on his feet. But I'm never going to release him. Not until his face is filled with pie.
Wiping off the pie from my face then I wiped the pie on my hands to Dwayne's face. Now that's revenge. I was laughing so hard when Dwayne kept on complaining like a kid. But a cute giggle caught my attention. Why did I forget about taking my revenge on her?
Amara's eyes widened when she saw me getting up from Dwayne. I got a paper plate with pie on it and slowly walked towards Amara. I noticed everyone running around and chasing each other to put the pie on each others' faces. But then Amara is the only one without pie on hers. I smiled at her. She seems excited, nervous but happy. I know she's anticipating this.
I didn't waste any moment and ran towards her. She was about to run when I caught her in my arms. I circled my arm on her waist, not letting her go. She was trying to avoid the pie that I was going to put on her face but this time, I won't let her win. I grinned at her and wiped the pie onto her face.
We were laughing at each other while we kept on wiping pie on each other's faces. But when our eyes met, it's like the world stopped turning. It's just the two of us and she's all I could see. She's all I want to see.
“From pie fighters to pie lovers?” Gray sarcastically said, shitting on our moment.
Amara and I pulled away from each other. That's when we noticed that everyone's watching us with playful grins on their faces. I saw Amara blushed despite the pie on her face and then she ran away. Again.
I sighed and looked towards Gray. I shot him a glare and showed him my middle finger.
Gray, clueless about what's happening, frowned and shrugged. “What did I do?” He asked.
I just signed heavily. What am I going to do now?
