Chapter 6: A dark promise.

"Excuse me? Can I get this in green?" I looked up at Gracelyn, the owner of the best fashion boutique in the city.

Immediately I left Connor, I went to the room and made calls to two separate boutiques in the city, I was going to get the prettiest clothes I've ever had and all on his money.

"Yeah sure, it would match your eyes" she gave me a sweet smile,

I yawned and stretched, my stomach made grumbling sounds, I didn't get anything to eat since breakfast.

I could pretend that it was the clothes selection and fittings keeping me from eating but it was something else, The rumors of war against the werewolves and Connor's kiss was enough to keep my stomach in knots,

I might be married to the Vampire king and even though technically I haven't gotten my wolf and I might never get her, I was still a descent of the werewolves and one of them. I wasn't scared for Connor, I was scared for the rest of my kind.

"Why don't we finish this tomorrow? Just send the rest of the designs I picked over and I'll do the fitting" I said softly to the two women, I didn't want to think about anything other than food, thinking about the war, was wrecking my nerves.

"Yes, of course!" Even though they were masking their tiredness with smiles and I was pretty sure their cheeks were hurting from smiling too much, they were too happy to be getting business from the queen to be bothered by the stress and leaving their stores to attend to me in the palace.

"If it's not too much to ask..." Gracelyn smiled even harder, trying to hide her nervousness.

"Yes?" I raised my brows in question, I didn't want to be mean or rude, but the activities of the day were taking their toil on my brain.

"Can I take a picture with you?" She covered her lips, giggling.

"Sure, why not?" I gave her a kind smile.

I was more than happy to see the two women out of the palace and slip inside the bathroom and turn on the warm water, it felt like heaven!

I still hadn't gotten creams and oils so I just let down my hair and slip into one of the evening gowns I purchased with comfy slippers, the material felt soft and silky on my skin and while it made my insides feel warm, it also annoyed and reminded me of all the times I had to wear rags and sleep on hard floors.

I went down to dinner.

Even though I wasn't expecting a welcoming reaction, the air still felt thick with hatred. I took a plate and unfolded the napkin on my lap, you would think after all these years of being treated like an animal I would have forgotten how to do it, but my fingers unfolded them the right way like they had a memory of their own. I almost smiled.

My mother had forced us to learn the proper dining manner and at the time it felt like a waste of time.

"What do you think you're doing?" It was Anne, her voice tiny and annoying like the brat she was.

I ignored her and piled the shredded chicken on my plate, chicken was my favorite thing to eat and it's been so long. I set up another plate and took crab cakes and a small portion of peas, salmon and fried chicken rib.

"You shameless thing, you think you can come in here and do whatever you want because the king isn't around?" Anne scoffed, I stared at her from across the table and saw her get up in her seat, most people around the table were listening to her now and staring at me like I was in sane.

"You think you can sit at the table and gobble down royal food, I think you've forgotten your place as a servant, you malicious lying bitch!" I might have done something irrational if she was near me because I had tolerated enough,

"So you'll teach me a lesson?" My voice betrayed my emotions, I was wrecking a storm inside of me but I sounded like I couldn't be bothered by climate change.

"I think you need the reminding, if Connor hadn't been kind enough, you would probably be dead in some gutter or on the streets begging for alms" I chuckled and gave her a strict look

She stopped mid sentence, shocked, her eyes bulging.

"If you're not hungry, you can get lost, seeing your face is already doing bad things to my appetite" I said calmly as I put a forkful of chicken in my mouth, wow! I had forgotten how real food tasted.

"You bitch! How dare you?" Her eyes were dark with rage.

"Anne" Her brother said from beside her, probably trying to avoid confrontation and their shady pasts getting spilled but too late, I was enraged.

"Please escort princess Anne to her room and if she says another derogatory word against your queen, put her outside the palace and make sure she stands there till noon tomorrow." I motioned to the guards, a part of me was scared they'd ignore and disgrace me but adding the queen part seemed to work because they moved immediately and dragged her away when she refused to leave with them

"You'll regret this! You-" Anne screams faded as they moved her away.

"If anyone else has anything to say, leave now because I promise I won't be nice the next time" I looked around the table at the thirty something royal vampires seated.

The rest of dinner went without a fuss but I could feel eyes on me, while some people left the room after checking their phones and exchanging glances. The room was almost empty before I was done eating.

I closed the door and leaned on it, the day had taken a lot, even though it was nowhere as stressful as the daily routine I used to lead but my body still hadn't adjusted to this new life, I felt weak and tired. It would take weeks of sleep before my body felt normal again.

A phone, I need to get a new phone. I felt left out when everyone was checking their phones and I couldn't.

"Tomorrow, I'll buy one" I mumbled to myself, stripped the gown off and hit the bed.
