Chapter 3 Unexpected Fortune

"Master has given you the option to stay here temporarily, but in return, you must take over the management of Angle Group, a subsidiary of the Lloyd Group in Frayton. And the group's profits for this year must exceed the previous years by at least five percentage points."

"He also mentioned that you have the right to refuse, but it may lead to a miserable fate for the Freeman Group."

Lyra clenched her teeth, seething with anger.

Before Old Freeman passed away, she had made a promise to him, vowing to take care of the Freeman Group. She couldn't let anything happen to it.

This time, her father had clearly seized upon her vulnerability. Instead of forcing her to go home, he insisted on assigning her to take over Angle Group.

What was his ulterior motive?

"Fine, as he wishes!"

Lyra took the pen and elegantly signed her name, accepting the supreme black gold card containing thirty billion.

As she looked at the dark gold surface of the card, she shook her head and chuckled.

Just a few minutes ago, she was so impoverished that she barely had ten dollars, not even enough for a taxi fare.

Could this be considered an unexpected stroke of fortune?

Due to the agreement with her father, her bank account had been frozen, and she had to conceal her true identity; otherwise, it would be seen as a breach of contract.

Normally, her mother-in-law and sister-in-law despised the poor and adored the wealthy. They always climbed the social ladder and never treated her with respect.

How would they react if they discovered that she was actually Lyra Lloyd, the youngest member of the Lloyd family and the wealthiest woman in the country, with billions in wealth?

She remembered when her best friend from the orphanage fell critically ill before she regained her memory. Lyra had kneeled down and begged Fiona Lee for a loan.

Fiona proudly produced a platinum bank card but didn't hand it over. Instead, she flaunted it, saying, "Guess how much money is in here? One million. You've never seen so much money in your life, have you?"

"But even if I were to use it to buy dog food, I wouldn't lend you a single penny! Because in my eyes, a poor friend like you is worth less than a pet dog."

Lyra clenched her fists, a trace of mockery flickering in her eyes.

Given the opportunity, she would love to teach those two arrogant women a lesson! Let out all her pent-up anger!

Just as she was contemplating this, someone grabbed her wrist from behind.

When she turned around, it was Fiona.

Fiona raised her chin arrogantly, wearing an expression of disdain and displeasure. Several affluent ladies followed closely behind her, carrying shopping bags of all sizes, indicating they had just finished their shopping spree.

Lyra calmly tucked the black gold card into her bag and spoke in a cold tone, "What do you want?"

Fiona was taken aback, momentarily surprised by Lyra's cool attitude, even though she used to intimidate Lyra effortlessly.

"Who allowed you to come out and make a fool of yourself? Is all the household work done? Is lunch prepared? If my precious son goes hungry because of you, I swear I'll give you a piece of my mind!"

"Look at what you're wearing! You've been married into my family for years, yet you still carry that aura of poverty. It's utterly embarrassing. Go back this instant!"

"Me, embarrassing?!"

Lyra found it rather amusing. "Ever since I married into the Freeman family, you deliberately drove away the household staff, forced me to quit my job, and made me do laundry and cook for your son, playing the role of a devoted wife. Have you ever been satisfied?"

"And you keep pushing the boundaries, accusing me of stealing your jewelry, using it as an excuse to withhold my shares in Grandpa's company. Not to mention the time you made me kneel in the pouring rain. Have you conveniently forgotten all of that?"

The ladies accompanying Fiona clicked their tongues, aware that Fiona had been harsh toward her daughter-in-law, but they hadn't expected her to be so audacious.

As the tension between the two escalated, the ladies found excuses to depart, one by one.

"You... What nonsense are you spouting?!"

Fiona attempted several times to interject, but Lyra's words were like a relentless onslaught, thwarting Fiona's every attempt to speak.

"Whether it's nonsense or not, you know the truth in your heart."

Lyra tilted her chin arrogantly, her gaze piercing. "I used to tolerate you, but if you provoke me again, I will reclaim everything you've done to me, twice over."
