Chapter 6 Calming a rogue
Selene stood close to the edge of the arena, soft wind whipped her tangled hair, she watched the crowd of werewolves gathered on the tiers above.
Her heart pounded fast, this doesn't feel like a trial it felts like it's going to be a rough display.
A huge stone wall surrounded her, the doors stood close in front of her.
Whatever was behind the door, it growled.
"Be careful," Emery said "try not to die."
Selene gave her a soft stare. "Is that your pep talk?"
"Yes and you will thank me later," Emery said, walking away from her.
The announcer's voice thunders loud across the arena. "Luna candidate Selene Damian, this is your phase one trial," he said "it's about survival."
One of the doors creaked opened.
A huge rogue wolf pounced out, foam around its mouth, its eyes so red with rage.
Selene flinched back, her heart pounding fast, she raised her arms.
The crowd leaned in.
Up in the royal viewing room...
Tristan gripped the fence, he stared at Selene from afar, he grinned as the crowd cheered.
"She is not ready," he growled.
Landon appeared behind him he was calm and his expression was unreadable.
"No one is ready for this," Landon soothed "Like you said it's her destiny, it's either she is Luna or not."
Tristan's jaw tightened. "This is too much," he said his eyes flashed gold "She does not even know what she is."
"Then I think it's time she finds out who she truly is," Landon whispered.
Back in the arena...
The rogue pounced towards her.
Selene rolled to the side just in time, her head hit the stone wall hard but she pulled herself together, she stood up at once with no weapon no cover.
The wolf powers up again.
Her instinct kicked in.
She raised her hands towards the rogue that was coming with great speed and rage, the wolf stopped.
The wolf stood stagnant, trembling and whimpering.
The wolf backed away from her and it bowed down before her.
Selene stood confused, she blinked, she was breathing hard.
What the hell just happened? She thought.
Clarissa saw what happened, her eyes filled with hatred, her stare was filled with fury. "That wretch," she muttered.
The announcer stood. "Phase one of this trial... Passed," his voice resounded loud.
Selene sighs heavily and her legs gave out, she dropped down on her knees shaking.
"How was that possible?" She whispered beneath her breath "did I just... Command it?"
Emery ran towards her. " Please... take this," she whispered, pressing the bottle of water into her hands.
"Thank you emery," Selene whispered.
She took the water and drank until she felt better, she sprinkled some on her messy hair.
"Let's go before any of the elders changes their mind," Emery said, dragging her out of the arena.
That night...
Landon found her in the hall, she was pacing from one end to the other.
"What seems to be the problem," He asked, leaning on one of the hall pillars.
Selene turned to face him. "Nothing."
Landon nodded. "Today's trial was tough but your moves were very impressive," he soothed, he placed his hands above the other.
"Well I didn't do anything," she murmured "I... Panicked."
"Exactly my point, even in your panic state, you calmed a rogue that is so viciously wide," he shook his head slowly in disbelief, "That's Luna magic."
Selene stared at him for a minute. "Do you still believe that... I am a werewolf?" Her voice so soft.
Landon moves towards her slowly. "I have served the alpha for ten years, i have seen girls lie, cheat, even beg to be chosen for this same opportunity you have but none of them could make a rogue submit."
"I did not ask or begged to be part of all this," she soothed.
"Yes but still it doesn't matter," he said, staring closely at her "What matters is that you are in it already and I'm here to make sure you don't die."
Selene looked at him, her gaze was filled with curiousity. "Why do you want to help," she asked.
"He gave her a rare smile. "The Alpha's Fate is in your hands and you must live for him to live."
She felt confused. "What do you mean," she asked her voice sounded curious "Why must I live for him to live?"
Landon smiled. "If you die, Alpha Tristan will become more dangerous than before."
Selene swallowed hard she moved closer. "How is it my business? I'm not interested in whatever Luna or alpha wolves thing you guys are into."
"Are you sure? Are you telling me that you don't feel that power burning inside you or the bond between you and the alpha?"
She was speechless. Yes she felt that magic inside her, the bond she has with Tristan was something she hasn't felt before but how possible is all of this? She thought.
Landon smirks. "It will be better if you choose to embrace your new life," he smiled "but if you keep rejecting your true nature that will be disastrous."
"How do you all want me to just fit in just like that? Days ago I was just an ordinary girl, living an ordinary life," she said her eyes blurred with tears, "you people kidnap me, turned me into a freaking toy display for your pleasure and you want me to embrace it?"
"With time you will understand."
"No! with time I won't understand," she shut back "Excuse me," She walked out on him.
Tristan came out from behind, he was listening to their conversation.
"She is stubborn," he murmured.
"Give her time," Landon said.
Tristan grinned. "I'm losing patience," he said.
"You know she must agree for the curse to be lifted," Landon whispered.
"I thought she would be calm by now but she is getting worse by the minute," Tristan seethed.
Landon whipped his head towards his direction. "Then what do you suggest we do alpha."
"Let's just do it your own way for now," Tristan said.
"Try as much as possible to be kind to her," Landon said.
Tristan gave him a hard stare. "I'm trying already and it's getting to my limit."
