chapter 1

"Baby?" I called nervously when I got back to the place I came from earlier, but I didn't find anyone there.

"Where are you, baby?" I even looked around to see people in a mall restaurant where we were now.

where is he?

I nervously walked out of the restaurant and squinted my eyes more as I looked around the sea of people.

"Baby? Where are you? Come back here. This is not a good joke," I said one after another while walking in front of the restaurant.

I can't just leave here because he might come back here and we'll have an argument. I will have more trouble finding him.

"Where are you?" I whispered to myself and wanted to cry but I suppressed the emotion, and continued to look around near the restaurant.

In the middle of my walk, it was like cold water was poured on me when I saw a very familiar man walking bravely towards my seat.

A nervousness rose in my chest for an inexplicable reason.

Why is he here?

What is he doing here?

Did he follow me here?

Looking for?

How did he find me?

He was close to where I was standing but I looked like a statue where I was standing because I couldn't move. I really want to run but I can't.

His physique has gotten more refined and expanded in the five years I haven't seen him. His luxury screamed even more. His presence is even more intimidating.

Shit!

"Mommy! Mommy!" I closed my eyes when I heard that voice.

Why still here?

I was about to leave my position when our eyes met. His cold gaze that still gives me some effect.

"Mommy!" I blinked and my eyes fell on my son pulling the hem of my dress.

"Yes, baby?" I squatted in front of him and cupped his soft cheeks. "Where have you been, Zeirode?"

He immediately sniffed and hugged me. I smiled because of that.

"I'm sorry, Mommy! I saw a mascot outside that's why I left..." he said.

My smile widened when I saw the sad face of my very handsome son.

"It's okay. Just don't do that again, okay? You should wait for me next time," I reminded.

His face lit up because of what I said.

"You're not mad at Zeirode?" he asked me innocently.

I shook my head. "Of course not, my baby."

I stopped talking to my son when I heard a loud thump from behind me.

"Who is he, Mommy?" my son asked grumpily.

I wanted to laugh at the way he asked. He doesn't look like a five-year-old.

"I don't know, baby. Let me handle this, okay?" I said softly to him.

"Alright. Make it fast, Mom," he said.

I just shook my head. I know who my son inherited from. I stopped again when someone nibbled on my back and the nervousness returned to my chest.

"Uh... what can I do for you, Sir?" I asked formally even though my heart was beating too fast.

The corner of his lips rose. I raised my eyebrows because of that. What is his problem with what I asked?

"Zreinessa Nerillano." When he mentioned my name, it was as if some kind of electricity flowed through my being. "It's been years."

I swallowed. "Sir Tredore Reverio, yes, it's been years. It's nice seeing you here."

He laughed a little. "Who's with you?"

The pounding in my chest increased even more because of his question but I answered him bravely.

"Zeirode Nerillano, my son," I introduced my son.

"It's not nice meeting you. You may now leave us," my son said coldly.

My eyes widened because of that and immediately scolded my son.

"Rode," I called him.

He looked up at me angrily. "Are you not yet done talking? You said that you don't know him, right? And you also said, that 'Don't talk to strangers.'"

I was almost amazed at the length of what he said. Is my son really only five years old?

I tried to smile at Tredore. "Don't mind my son. I'm sorry for that..."

I was nervous to see that his attention was on my son.

No...

He can't know...

I don't want to have any more connection with him... with them...

My son can never...

Even if you are her father, you can't...

"My dear sister, I really need your help..." Ate held both of my hands tightly and squeezed them.

We are now in my room and he is repeatedly asking me for help with his problem.

"Sister Cray..." I cautiously complained. "Because what you are doing is too difficult..."

Ate Cray sighed and bowed slightly. He still kept a tight grip on my hands as if he really didn't want to lose hope in teasing me.

"Zrei, I promise, this is the last favor I'm asking for." He met my eyes again. There is still a trace of his begging. "Just give me what I want, hmm?"

I let out a deep sigh. I really don't agree with what he wants me to do. No matter how you look at it, I don't really agree, but no matter what I say to Ate Cray, she doesn't listen. He still insists on what he wants to happen.

"I love Tredore very much... I don't want to lose him, Zrei. It's kind of you to help me..." she said crying.

"Sister... you know I don't agree with what you want to happen," I said.

"Zrei, I won't let you do this if I can get pregnant..." she said softly and tears started to fall on her cheeks.

My chest ached because of that. It was only a few days ago when we found out about Ate Cray's situation. According to the doctor we went to, Ate has kidney complications and it is unlikely that she will get pregnant. Ate Cray was very hurt because of that. There isn't a night that she doesn't cry because of that. He also told me that something had happened to him and Tredore several times, but he didn't even get pregnant, so he decided to get checked.

"Sister..." I only said.

He was bent over and kept crying. I feel bad for Ate's condition. I couldn't even do anything to somehow ease the pain he was feeling.

Is this the signal for me to agree to what he wants to happen?

"Zrei… I'm begging. When Tredore finds out I can't get pregnant… he'll leave me!" he said.

"It's still not right, Sister..." I said thoughtfully.

He shook his head.

"Zrei. Will you still think about your principles? Don't you want to help me at least?" he said crying.

"It's not like that, Ate..." I defended.

"You make me feel like you don't want to help me, Zrei..." he said full of resentment.

"No, Sister," I said quickly. "I just thought there might be another way."

He met my eyes. "Tell me, Zrei, is there another way? You want my other girl to do what I'm asking you to do?"

I was silent.

"It's painful for me that I leave it to you and then you want me to do it with another woman?!" He raised his voice so I was startled.

My heart beat faster. Ate just yelled at me. Throughout our marriage we were really close and the times when we didn't understand something were counted on the fingers.

"Sorry... I didn't mean to yell at you, Zrei..." he said sincerely.

I swallowed hard. I was about to agree to what he wanted me to do, but it made me wonder what might happen to me if I finally agreed.

I knew the moment I gave the answer he expected, I had nothing to lose. I will also be in trouble. All future events in my life will be uncertain.

I sighed deeply and tightly held onto Ate's hands which were still holding mine.

"I agree," I said breathlessly.

"Really, Zrei?" His face lit up when he heard what I said.

"Yes, Sister Cray, just for you," I said and gently smiled at her.

He stood up from his squat position in front of me and hugged me tightly.

"Thank you, Zrei. I will look at this as a big debt..." he said softly.

I just silently nodded and stroked his back so that he would calm down from his crying.

"Let's talk about what I'm going to do, Sister," I only said.

When I noticed Ate's sleepiness, I opened the conversation between the two of us about what she wanted me to do.

I know it's wrong because we can hurt people. Above all, I don't know how to lie either so I don't really agree with what he wants to happen.

I sighed. I couldn't do anything else, I agreed to what he wanted to happen. I just fell asleep without thinking about what could happen.

"Good morning, dad." I kissed her right cheek when I got to the dining table to have breakfast.

"Good morning, hon," he greeted back.

I smiled and quietly sat in the empty seat. It was just the two of us at the table but there was a lot of food served. I just shrugged my shoulders because this is not new to me.

"Where's Sister?" I asked in the middle of our meal.

"She left this morning. She said she was going to Tredore." Daddy shrugged.

I just didn't speak and continued eating.

"By the way, the substitute teacher will teach you first," said daddy.

"Yes? But why?" frowned when I asked.

"Mr. Gresena has an emergency," answered daddy.

"Do you know who will be my substitute teacher?" I still ask.

"Well, Mr. Gresena said that he's his most trusted friend, so no need to worry, hon." Daddy smiled at me.

"Okay," I just said and shrugged.

I have been homeschooled since I was in elementary school. And now, in just two months I will be able to graduate from college with a business degree.

I still remembered why I was in this situation. I'm still in kindergarten. Even though it's been a long time, what happened is still clear in my memory because I will never forget that day.

Mommy picked me up from school, which I'm really used to. Little did I know that it would be the last time he picked me up. Someone tried to kidnap me but mommy resisted and didn't want to hand me over to the kidnappers, so she was shot right in front of me and left us.

I sighed as I remembered the bitter past again. Mommy died that day. Since then, daddy doesn't let me go out of the mansion alone.

"You okay, hon?" daddy asked worriedly.

"Yes, father." I smiled at him to show that I was fine.

So since then, daddy decided to homeschool me. My family earns money from hotel chains, so it's not impossible for someone to make an attempt on our lives because the hotel is so popular in the country.

When I got back to the room, I just fixed myself before going to the study room to wait for the substitute teacher that daddy was talking about.

I just hope my substitute teacher isn't grumpy today.

Ate is still not here, so I'm sure we can talk about what she's going to make me do later tonight.

"Miss Zreinessa Nerillano." The hair on the back of my neck stood up when I heard a baritone voice behind me.

I swallowed hard before slowly turning to a man standing at the entrance of the study room. He was wearing navy blue button-down long sleeves tucked into his black slacks. The sleeves of his polo shirt are folded up to his elbow so the muscles and veins in his arm are clearly visible. The first three buttons of his clothes were also open so I swallowed even more.

Who is this? I guess he's perfect?

Is he my substitute teacher?

When our eyes met, the surroundings seemed to stop. He greeted me with a deep and cold gaze. His eyebrows are thick, his nose is piercing, his lips are red and moist. And his jaws... they tensed so that his perfect face became even more defined.

Shit! I'm guilty here!

"How do I look, Miss Zreinessa Nerillano?" he asked coldly and the hairs on my neck and arms stood up again.

I tasted it and let's fix it. "Uh... are you the substitute teacher referred by Sir Gresena?"

I just chose not to answer his question and open a new topic. I might have something else to say when I answer him.

"About that, yes," he answered.

"Okay," I said and went to the study table to open my laptop.

I was already sitting in my shivel chair but my substitute teacher remained standing at the door. I frowned because of that.

"Uh, sir? Why haven't you come in yet?" I asked cautiously.

"I don't want to be accused of trespassing, Miss Zreinessa Nerillano," he answered.

I wanted to laugh at what he said but I stopped myself. He's still trespassing, eh, he's already inside our house, isn't he?

"Sorry about that. You can come in, sir," I said with a smile.

He entered quietly and immediately went to my study table. There is a shivel chair next to me reserved for Sir Gresena, but he will use it for the time being.

He carefully placed an attaché case he was carrying on the wide study table and from there, he took out his laptop. I just turned my attention away from him and focused my eyes on my own laptop.

"Shall we start?" he asked.

"Yes, sir," I answered formally.

In the few hours he taught me, I had no complaints. Sir Gresena did not make a mistake in choosing him as my substitute teacher. He explained our topics well and clearly to me today. Sir Gresena is also good at teaching, but I can't help but think that I quickly understood the explanations of my substitute teacher today.

"Sir, I'll go downstairs. I'll just bring lunch upstairs," I said.

"Alright," was his only answer and his eyes kept looking at the laptop.

I snorted for some unknown reason. I stood up quietly and if I was looked at, my heels hit the foot of the shivel chair!

"Shit!" I screamed nervously and waited for my fall on the cold tiles of the study room but it didn't happen.

I kept my eyes closed but I could feel the warm arms hugging me. I swallowed hard before opening my eyes. My heart is not beating fast.

I looked at sir with wide eyes when I realized our position now! I fell into his lap and his arms wrapped around my waist!

I could feel my cheeks burning but I couldn't take my eyes off the man in front of me. His deep and cold eyes seemed to absorb my soul.

"S-Sorry, sir... I'm sorry," I stammered and was about to leave his lap when he stopped me.

"Stay still," he said in a cold voice.

I swallowed again and blinked. My lips are slightly open but I can't think of the right words to say at this moment!

"Huh?" I asked vaguely.

"Stay fucking still, Zreinessa." I flinched when I felt his breath hit the skin of my neck.
