Kayden's POV
4 Years ago
I was in my bedroom with my best friend Rodney. We have a ton of homework to do and I was dragging it out so that he would still be here when my dad came home. My dad always leaves me alone when Rodney was here, so I was kinda taking advantage of that. Rodney doesn't know what goes on in this house and I have absolutely no intention of him ever finding out.
I was sitting on my bed and Rodney was at my desk, looking for information on my laptop for his one assignment, but when I looked up, he was staring straight at me. Now here's the thing with Rodney; he thinks he is in love with me. What he feels for me isn't real, but he refuses to see the truth. It also doesn't help that I don't feel anything for him besides brotherly love and friendship. This has made for some awkward encounters but I can't give him up. He is all I have left.
Mum died of cancer when I was six years old, so I don't remember much about her, apart from her smile and how loved she always made me feel. Dad was different back then too. He was loving and kind and my idol. Then mum died. Her illness took a toll on dad emotionally and by the time she passed, he was drinking almost every day. After her funeral things took a nightmare turn. Dad started drinking even more and would forget to feed me most days, but I kept quiet, because I knew he was battling to cope without mum. This carried on till my seventh birthday. Dad completely forgot about it and when I tried to remind him, he became enraged and punched me.
That was the first time he had ever lifted his hands to me, but it would most certainly not be the last. The beatings became more brutal over time, and I had to become a master at hiding them with make-up or long sleeves. Then I turned sixteen. That night will haunt me for the rest of my life, as it was the first time he raped me.
I mentally shy away from that memory and with a sigh, I go back to doing my homework. Just as I was about to ask Rodney if he wanted something to drink, I hear the front door open and close downstairs. My heart starts beating really fast and I almost start hyperventilating, when I remember that I have my best friend here with me. Rodney will protect me from dad if he does try something. At 6'3, Rodney is a powerhouse. Even bigger than dad, who is 6'1. I'm tiny compared to them, having inherited my mom's small stature at 5'5.
I quickly look up at my friend, only to find him staring at me once again, but this time he has a look in his eye that I can't place and that makes me feel very uncomfortable for some reason so I look back down at my work spread out on the bed.
I don't say anything, just pretend to go back to work, till I hear my dad's footsteps coming up the stairs and down the hall towards my room. I hold my breath, waiting to see what he wanted. I honestly can't relax when he is around. I look towards the door as I hear it start opening and I try to plaster a fake smile on my face as greeting.
He pops his head around the door and looks over at Rodney, then at me, a smile seems to grow on his face. "Hi boys, how was school today?" He asks us, still smiling. 
"Great Mr Williams. We had a pop quiz in Maths, but Kayden and I both passed with high marks." Rodney says, greeting my dad back and giving him a warm smile. I didn't say anything till dad arched his eyebrow at me. 
"It was fine, thanks for asking. Dinner is in the oven and I'm just about done with my homework. What about you Rodney, are you almost done?" I ask Rodney, to take the spotlight off me. 
"I'm also just about done." He says, giving me a huge smile, but it doesn't comfort me like it usually would. There is something off in that smile.
"Great, so we can eat, because I am starving." My dad says and turns away to go downstairs. Rodney and I get up to follow him downstairs. I just reached the door, when my dad suddenly moves in front of me, blocking the way, so I try to back up into my room again, but get blocked by another body. I look back and up into Rodney's face, only to be met with a sickening smirk on his lips.
By this time my heart feels like it's gonna pop right through my chest with how fast it was beating. I look back to my dad and he has the same look on his face as Rodney. "I changed my mind, I'm only hungry for one thing right now. " My dad says, his eyes darkening with a lustful look as he takes a step closer to me. I start to feel the panic rise within me , so I turn to Rodney and cling to his arm. Rodney will save me, he won't allow anyone to hurt me. 
And right there is where I made the biggest mistake of my life. You see, Rodney was the last person I should have trusted. He looked down at me as I looked up at him and he grinned, like it was the happiest day of his life. "Rodney, what do you say to a Kayden sandwich for dinner?" My dad asked my friend.
My eyes started tearing up when realization hit me like a ton of bricks and my knees buckled. I would have fallen to the floor if it wasn't for Rodney's arms snaking around my waist and holding my body against his in a vice-like grip. "That sounds like an excellent idea Mr Williams. How about you get everything ready while I make sure Kayden doesn't go anywhere." He tells my dad while still looking down at me.
My dad grins and nods before turning and leaving the room. Rodney drags my unwilling body back towards my bed. " Let's make some space on the bed for our fun." He says, sweeping my books to the floor, before shoving me down on it. I tried to scramble to the other side of my bed but Rodney grabs my leg and pulls me back towards him and lays on top of me so I can't get away.
"Why are you doing this? You're supposed to be my friend and I trusted you. How could you do this to me?" I shout at him, still trying to wriggle free of him. He looks down at me and smirks at my attempt to get away. 
" You see Kayden, I came here one night to see you and as I got to the door, I heard a muffled noise, so I peeked through the dining room window, and can you guess what I saw? I saw you bent over the table, with your dad behind you, fucking you. At first I was mad, because you are supposed to be mine, but then I actually looked at your dad's face. He was getting so much pleasure from your gorgeous body and I just couldn't deny him that. So I waited for you to go upstairs when he was done and I knocked on the window." While Rodney is telling me the story, he is grinding his lower body against mine. My skin is crawling with disgust, but he just seems to get more excited when I struggle against him, so I stop and just lie there under him and close my eyes, the tears still pouring down my face as I silently cry.
"When he opened the door for me and I confronted him with what I saw, he tried to deny it, but I quickly told him that I don't want to report him. I could feel my body shutting down and my consciousness was fading fast. Just as I was fading out for the last time, I heard a loud bang on the front door. "Police, open up!" Thank fuck, looks like the cops are here, was my very last thought as I slipped into unconsciousness.


Kayden's POVI woke up in I white room to the annoying beep, beep of a heart monitor. At first I couldn't remember how I got there, but then all the horrible memories came back. I shot up straight in bed, forgetting about my battered body in my panic. I gasped as my body screamed in pain and I sunk back down, trying not to black out again."Easy there love. You're safe now." Came the gentle voice of a woman. I looked to my side and saw a police woman sitting in the chair next to my bed. My eyes darted around then, looking for any danger. " There is no one here but me sweetheart. I figured you wouldn't want any men around you right now, so I stayed with you and your doctor is a woman as well." She told me, placing a gentle hand over mine. I pulled my hand away, not being able to handle her skin against mine right now. She got a sad look in her eye, but didn't try touching my hand again."My name is Officer Moira James and I need to ask you some questions that are going to be upsetting for you, but it needs to be done. Then I will leave you to rest, okay?" She asked gently and I nodded, knowing what was coming. The questions were horrible and I just wanted to sleep but I knew this was the only way to make sure my father and Rodney paid for what they did. So I answered all her questions as clearly as I could.Just as she finished and was about to get up to leave, I grabbed her hand; "I-is that enough t-to make sure m-my father and Rodney g-gets life in p-prison?" I managed to stutter out. She gave me a sympathetic look, then told me something that would haunt me for years to come,"I'm sorry, love but we only managed to catch and arrest your father. But the other guy jumped through your bedroom window and got away. Don't worry though, we have a warrant for his arrest and we have everyone looking for him as we speak."I knew she was trying to reassure me, but I got a sickening feeling in the pit of my stomach that I will be seeing Rodney again. "C-can you p-please s-s-stay with me? I-I don't feel s-safe with him r-running around." I ask her softly. She smiles and sits back down. "Sleep sweetheart. I will be right here when you wake up." She whispers and then gives me smile that is mixed with sadness.I fell asleep to her quiet humming and her hand on mine. I felt safe with her, so I will deal with the touch.In one night I had lost my best friend, my father and the little bit of trust I had left in humanity, but I will rise above it eventually. It might take me years to overcome this, but somehow, someway I will do it. For right now though, I needed rest so that I can at least heal physically. And with that thought I drift off to sleep.I wasn't sure what my future would hold, but what I did know, was that I was forever changed by the horrifying incidents that happened to me in that house. For the next four years, I would be barely a shadow of myself, too scared to truly live my life, until he came along and changed everything.
