The Gentle Good Boy

Bright's POV

My name is Bright Wealth, smart, intelligent and I just turned eighteen few weeks ago.

I had just finished with high school and I applied for one of the best university in the city but I'm still waiting for their response.

I just want to be done with everything, so i can get on with my career and get the hell out of this hell hole.

My parent are divorced and also they remarried to someone else which makes my life more complicated and miserable.

My parents George Wealth and Tonia Wealth were married until nine years ago when they got seperated due to some misunderstanding.

Both my parents are successful in their line of work, My dad is a vice president to a Rich firm while my mom is also Manager in another Rich firm, as you can see money is roaming all around me, even the name Wealth suit us perfectly.

My Dad loves me and will do anything that i asked, and another thing is that he also loves his Job.

We barely see each other often due to his work even by the weekend he's always Working, his Job didn't let him have enough time for me. We never have that kind of father-son bonding.

I know he want to be there for me but his Job wouldn't let him. So he expects my mom to fill that role but it's just like my dad she also doesn't have time because of her Job.

My dad didn't like the fact that my mom is working her head off which makes her neglect her duty as a mother.

Several times I've heard them arguing about that, he wants my mom to quit her job so she can have time for me but my mom isn't agreeing to that.

My mom is someone that love her Job so much and also wants to reach her greatest limit of success and in doing so she doesn't have much time for her family.

It's either she come late from work sometimes or she went on business trip leaving me all alone with my dad.

She didn't have time to cook, or do other works in the house, she hired a maid but my dad doesn't want a maid in the house.

We have a part-time maid, she only come in the morning for our breakfast and also the afternoon to cook for me and at the same time make dinner, And also to do the house chores just everything a maid is supposed to do.

She's not allowed to stay, sometimes when I'm bored i joined her in cooking and also learned from her.

Sometimes when i needed an advise from my parents none of them are available to give it. I needed my parents around me so could pour my heart out but they are never around.

In cases like this lots of kids went astray because of this but i vowed to myself not to allow that happen to me.

Their Separation happened nine years ago and it is due to this matter.

Eight Years Ago

I was nine years old at that time of their separation. My Headmaster declared a PTA meeting with all the Basic six student because of the upcoming examination entrance which I'm among.

My teacher specifically pinpointed me out and told me she needed to see either of my parent on that day which i nodded affirmative.

When i got home i waited for my parent till it got dark, then my mom walked in. I greeted her which she responded to happily.

" How was school today?" She asked.

" It was fine, mom" i answered.

" Okay....... Have you eaten?" She asked.

" Yes mom" i answered.

" Oh that's good" she replied and she was about to head to her room then i decided to inform her about the meeting.

" Mom, My teacher said there's going to a ........."

" Please Bright, let's not do this tonight I'm so tired....please..... I'm sorry baby i will make it up to you" she said interrupting me.

" But mom..... She said she need to see........."

" BRIGHT......i said not tonight, I'm tired" she shouted again then she went to her room.

Few minutes after she came down to have dinner.

While she was eating i told her about the meeting and she said she have to be somewhere tomorrow that she won't be available maybe i should inform my dad.

She do this alot whenever i bring up conversation about school which she knows it's going to result to meeting.

So i waited for my dad maybe he can squeeze time to go with me.

Then after some hours later he also came in which i went to hug him.

" Hey champ, how are you doing?" He said.

" I'm fine dad...... how is work?" I asked.

" Work is good boy, but it's so stressful" he said.

" Sorry..... you're welcome" i said.

" Thanks........i just need to head over to shower then come back down to eat" he said tiredly.

" Okay dad......i will prepare the table for you" i said then he left. So i quickly served him his food before he came down.

He came down after having his bath then to the dinning table to eat.

I waited for him to finish eating before i could bring up the topic, so when he finished eating and about to head over to his room i decided stop him.

" Dad..... there's something i have to tell you" i said and he stopped.

" You mean now?" He asked and i nodded affirmitive.

" Okay but be snappy about it" he said sitting on the couch and I informed about the meeting.

" Have you talked to your mother about this?" He asked.

" Yes dad, but she said she's going somewhere tomorrow that she won't be available" i replied.

" That's nonsense, why would she say that?... don't worry i will talk to her about it" he said.

" Okay Dad" i said.

" Yeah.......Now go to bed now..... it's late already" he said then i went to my room.

Few minutes later i got thirsty and decided to go the kitchen to drink then i heard my parent arguing again so i stopped and eavesdrop.

" What do you mean?..... you won't be able to.....the teacher asked for either of us to be there and now you're telling me.... you are going on a business trip" my dad said.

" So because I'm a mother i should kill myself?, I'm trying my best here....What do you want me to do"

" You know the nature of my Job, if there's time trust me I'll go with him but i can't" mom replied.

" That's just it, you never have time...you never have time for anyone...... not even for your own son"

" you know this is exactly the reason i told you to quit that Job so you can have time for your son" dad said.

" And i told you never,...after all my hard work, after all I've put into this job and you want me to quit it when I'm just a step to reach my goals......Never" mom said.

" So you will abandon your child all in the name of work, what kind of mother are you that doesn't look or care about her son"

" You've never been there for him..... I can't even remember the last time you cook in this house" dad said.

" Oh i care about him and he's the one to have all this.. he's the reason I'm doing all this.... it's all because of him" Mom said.

" You don't have to worry about that.......i earned more than enough for everyone"

" you don't have to worry about it besides i don't believe you, you're only using him as an excuse you and i know that you are only doing this for no one but for yourself" Dad said.

" Say whatever you want i don't care, besides he's old enough to take care of himself, kids his age are doing things by themselves and they are fine" she said.

" Are you a mother at all.....how can you say that?, this job of yours has really turned you to a crazy person"

" i don't even know your job in this house anymore, you are no use to husband not even for your son" Dad said.

" Oh-oh is this because i denied you sex for some time now, is that the reason for all this insult?"

" Please George, I'm tired i need to wake up early tomorrow morning to prepare for my trip, so i need to rest" she said.

" if you don't care about him well i do and I'm telling you now that you must cancel that trip and go to your son's school tomorrow"

" I'm telling you that as the head of this house" Dad said and she giggled.

" You must be joking, Not only the head you will see the tail" Mom said.

" Don't dare me Tonia, don't you dare me" Dad said with a serious tone then everything was silent.

I guess they must've sleep, so i went to the kitchen to drink then went back to my room.

I really feel sad anytime i hear both my parents having that argument, and i don't even know what to do.
