CHAPTER 6: STAY AWAY FROM CARL

[At the Wales Mansion]

It's 1:38pm and Mr Wale just got back home.

“Welcome Sir”, The butler greeted him and took his briefcase while the driver took in his luggage and several gifts he got for his daughter.

“Thank you Ade, is my wife home?” He responded while walking to the staircase, he removed his suit jacket and handed it to the butler.

“Yes s-”

“Welcome back sweetheart”, the Butler didn't get to finish his sentence before Mrs Wale appeared from the study with her Personal Assistant, Michelle. She walked over to her husband and give him a quick hug and a kiss to the chick.

“How was your trip?”, She asked

“Splendid, my dear”, He held her hand and they both went upstairs to their room.

Mr Wale had a hot shower, he was getting dressed while telling his wife about the challenges he encountered on his trip.

“Mr Macaulay is a really corrupted politician, it's so obvious that he embezzles alot of Nigeria funds”, He said in all manner of hate.

“Hm, it's okay honey, you will still win that election with your family by your side” She consoled her husband.

“Yes, I hope so”

“Come, let's go downstairs for lunch”, He was clad in a grey joggers and a navy blue t-shirt.

The maids served their food with Nanny Ti on stand by.

“Nanny Ti, when will Ayo get back home, I got presents for her”, Mr Wale asked.

“That's really nice of you sir and here she was thinking you and madam forgot her birthday”, Even though Nanny Ti is older than them, they're still her boss.

Mr and Mrs Wale stopped eating and looked at Nanny Ti like she's suddenly developed horns.

“It's her birthday today?”

“Oh my goodness, I totally forgot”, They both said almost immediately.

‘Oh, so they did forget, my God’, Nanny Ti thought to herself.

[Back at the school]

During lunch, Ayo keep getting weird looks from Ola, she thought she was just seeing things but her friend, Chisom noticed.

“Is it just me or Ola is giving you the killer look, like the ‘if only looks could kill’ look”

“Right!, I thought only I saw it”, Ayo replied

“What, where, I don't see anything” Joy who was so busy stuffing her face glanced up and survey around the cafeteria to spot Ola and her friends.

“How will you see her when you're too busy getting married to the food” Chisom replied almost in disgust.

‘How can a 16 year old eat like a toddler?’ Chisom thought in annoyance.

“Leave me joor, it's not my fault that Nanny Ti can cook delicious foods” Joy pouted.

“You say that about everyone... last time you said the spaghetti that the cafeteria lady made was the best” Chisom replied

“Cause it was!” Joy said.

“Joy, everyone in school rejected it except you”, Ayo told her.

They were still arguing when the bell rang for lunch break over. They packed up to leave the cafeteria when Ola approached them.

“Hi quiet girl... and her minions” Ola said with her hands crossed over her chest and her friends behind her.

“And who are calling minions?”, Chisom who is ever not afraid of anything or anyone asked Ola in all manner of seriousness.

“You of course... and the thing over there” Ola said pointing at Joy and her friends laughed.

“You lit-”

“What do you want Ola?” Ayo cut in blocking Chisom who was already folding her fist.

“From you?! eww, what could I possibly want from you haha?” Ola said

“Then why are you here”, Joy who was quite all this time asked.

“I am here you warn you Ayo, stay away from Carl, GOT IT!” Ola warned.

“You do know that he's my cousin right?” Chisom asked just to be sure.

“I don't care! I saw him talking to you after English class, he even wished you a happy birthday, he's mine” Ola replied

“He isn't your property and besides he was the one who came up to me, I didn't approach him first” Ayo said to defend herself.

Everyone knows that Carl and Ola dated in the past for 2 months, he broke up with her because she was clingy, always mean to his friends, not wanting to chat only make out, but she wasn't over him, she chased away all the girls around, even the ones that talk to him, sit close to him during lunch or science class.

“A word is enough for the wise” she said for the last time, she turned around and walked away.

Carl saw everything that happened,

“Let's go man, we have basketball practice after lunch break”, his friend told him, Carl sighed and picked his bags and left with his friends. He was getting tired of Ola schemes. He knew she was telling all the girls around him to stay clear, he was just playing dumb because he thought it was just the aftermath of their breakup and that she'll get over it, but it is getting frustrating.

[At the Wale's mansion]

They were alot of people in the mansion,

event planners, decorators, caterers, DJs, musical artists, magicians and more, Mrs Wale was passing out instructions to the event planner.

“I want this party to be the best in town, so tell me the full budget” Mrs Wale asked.

“From the decor, the cake, food, drinks and snacks, the music, chairs and canopy, even invitation of guest, I'll estimate 2.5million Naira”, The planner replied.

“Is that it? are you sure it'll be enough?” Mrs Wale asked

“Yes madam”

“Okay, butler Ade get the cheque book for me”

She wrote a cheque of 2.5 million and handed to the butler to give to the planner.

“I need everything done ASAP, my daughter will be back from school soon and I want this birthday to be the talk of the town” Mrs Wale instructed.

“Of course madam!” They replied and went to do their various work.

“You sent for me madam?” Nanny Ti asked Mrs Wale

“Why didn't you remind me that today is Ayomide's birthday?” Mrs Wale asked.

“I am sorry ma, I tried to call you but you weren't picking your calls” Nanny Ti replied.

“You should have still texted”

‘How would I have known you'd forget your only child's birthday?’, Of course Nanny Ti didn't say that to Mrs Wale for obvious reasons. “I am sorry ma” she just apologized and was dismissed.

Mrs Wale was going to invite the elite people in the city, her business partners, the politician friends to curry favor, Her husband's friends etc, her daughter just turned sixteen it's time to use her to gain favours.
