Chapter 06
—Lena's POV—
“He must be really desperate to offer me that much land and wealth.” I tell Zoey as I gulp down the remaining whiskey in my glass, the burn doesn't help or make my mind any clearer.
“Yes he must be, I've never heard of an Alpha offering up this much to a stranger, because he doesn't know that it's you so he must be really desperate.” Zoey said.
“Fuck! Why couldn't he just stay out of my life, I was doing so well, I had my job, I had my kids and after all these years Leo just had to come in again.” I said as I ran my hands through my hair.
“You can say no Lena, you're not obligated to help him or that pack, they all turned their backs on you.” Zoey told me, I appreciated Zoey and I wished I was more like her, she saw the world in black and white and that was it, but that wasn't me, I knew they were some grey areas and I was a doctor, I swore to do no harm, so if I ignore Leo's request and not help the pack and more people die when I could've helped, I wouldn't be able to live with it.
“I can see the wheels turning in your head, you're going to do it, aren't you?” Zoey asked.
“I have to help them Zoey.” I told her.
“You don't even know that you can, everyone has tried and failed.” She said.
“You and I both know that I'm not like everyone else. Plus this helps the kids too.” I tell her.
“How exactly does it help the kids?” She asked me, I could tell she was angry, I didn't think it was possible but Zoey hated Leo and that pack more than me.
“Leo is their father and if we were still together, they're all supposed to inherit that land and the wealth that comes with it. With Leo offering them to me, I can give my children what truly belongs to them.” I explain to her and hopes she understands.
“Money isn't an issue Lena, you make way too much money and I'm their god mother, the kids will never want for anything.” Zoey said.
“It's not about the money Zoey and deep down, underneath your anger you know that. It's about my children getting what's rightfully theirs, having a connection to their legacy, they're already asking questions about their father and I know it's only going to get worse the older they get so even if they can't know their father, at least they'll have something that's connected to him.” I explain to her.
“Ok, let's say you go, how are you going to explain the kids to Leo because there's no way that you're going to be able to hide them from him. If it was only one kid then maybe you could, but they're three. Anna looks like you but Liam and Luke are carbon copies of their father. How are you going to explain that to him?” Zoey asked.
“Are you forgetting that he was the one that rejected me even after I told him I was pregnant, you were there. He said he wanted nothing to do with the baby, even accused me of being unfaithful. So I highly doubt that he'll have any interest in the kids and even if he asks any questions, I'll just tell him that kids aren't his.” I tell Zoey.
She releases a huge sigh. “I don't like it, not one bit. But you're my best friend and I love you and the kids and if this is what you really want to do then I support you. But I'm coming with you and there will be no argument on that.” Zoey told me.
“I wouldn't expect anything less from you. I guess we're all going back to moon shadow pack. Words I never thought I'd say.” I said as I shook my head.
“Yea, I never expected to hear those words either. So what's the plan Lena?” Zoey asked.
“Well I have to give my three weeks notice in the hospital and talk to my patients about moving them to another doctor seeing as I don't know how long I'll be over there. But first I'm going to have to respond to Leo and tell him that I'm accepting his offer.” I tell her.
“Oh, I can't wait to see the look on his face when he finds out that the one person that can save his pack is the mate that he rejected six years ago he's going to be so shocked. If I were in his shoes I would be speechless, I wouldn't know what to say.” Zoey said as she did her best not to laugh.
“Not going to lie, that is the one part of all of this that I'm looking forward to.” I tell her and we both burst out laughing.
“Ok, I'm going to leave you to that. I'm going to head in, don't stay up too long. Goodnight Lee.” Zoey said as she got up.
“Goodnight Zoey.” I said and she went up the stairs leaving me alone.
As much as I want to help, I can't help but wonder how I'd feel when I see Leo for the first time after six years and then there's the kids, they have eyes and they're so smart for their age. Will they figure out that Leo is their father? I don't think I would be able to lie to them if they asked me a direct question.
Shoving that out of my mind, it's not something that I can handle right now. I pick up my laptop, Leo is still old fashioned, sending letters be mail and even writing them down himself but that's not me, I don't have the time. I checked for the returning email address on the envelope and then I opened up my email and inputed the address. Then I stared at the screen trying to figure out the words and finally after a while, they came to me.
