02

Principal Edgar rubbed his temples and looked at me with determined eyes. His dark brown eyes were tired from all the stress and his white hair was neatly combed. "I was talking to your Uncle, Connor White?" He looked at me waiting for my answer and I nodded.

"He informed me that you're moving in with him." That shocked me. Why? Why did he want me to move in with him? Isn't my life ruined enough? I nodded and looked at the door. I wanted to get out of here as fast as I could. The principal noticed my discomfort and allowed me to exit, his face held no sign of emotion.

I held my back in my left hand and walked out of the office, biting my tongue. Once no one was around, I ran out of school as fast as my feet could take me.

I live with my aunt because my parents died two years ago. Yes, my parents did die and my soul died with them. I'm no longer the funny, sweet girl that everybody loved but the tough and strict tomboy that everyone despises.

Before my parent's death, I was a completely different person. I used to prank and socialize with everyone but I was crushed when I saw the horrific scene that was in front of me two years ago.

Flashback

"It's you and me. Moving at the speed of light into eternity. Tonight is the night. To join me in the middle of ecstasy" I watched the moon as Chris Brown's forever blared throw my earphones. To say I love this song is a crime against nature. I am in love with this song.

I sighed as the wind blew and adverted my gaze to the small pond in front of me. I looked at the clock and noticed that it was 11:00 p.m. already. I guess I have to go to the house or mom will have a heart attack.

I looked at the scenery in front of me for the last time and turned around, walking back to my house. Dad always said that walking in the forest at night was dangerous, but what can I say, I'm adventurous.

Even with Dad's constant warnings, I couldn't stay away from the forest that's near our house. We've been living here for three years and from the beginning, I've visited the forest one day after another.

When I'm in the middle of the woods, I always feel comfortable, free even. I could think of anything and let all the bad memories fade away. I stepped on a branch but kept on going. It was darker than it usually was tonight.

I saw a small light from behind a tree further ahead and walked faster, wondering what happened. As I took more steps, the light became bigger, making me run faster. What was going on?

Soon, all I could see was the house on fire. Our house on fire. I was too shocked as I looked at the house that I didn't realize the people around me. A fireman pulled me backwards telling me to stay away but I was too shocked to answer him. I finally realized what was happening and struggled to get out of his grip.

"Little girl, you have to stay here!" He said firmly. I looked at him with tears in my eyes. I couldn't believe this was actually happening. "What? My family's in there! Let me go!" I yelled as I continued struggling. The man pulled me back and put both of his hands on my shoulder staring at me with sympathetic eyes.

"You can't go in there. We're trying our best to save your family." The man said with sweat leaking down from his forehead. He ushered someone to come and soon, I was being pulled away by a woman. I looked at her face; the only thing that I saw was that she had freckles.

"Honey, we have to stay here and ask you a couple of questions." She said and I looked at her with disbelief. I can't believe it! My family's in a fire and she wants to ask me questions?

"What? My family's in there! I have to go!" I screamed at the top of my lungs and started to run towards the house but was held back by two men. There were shouts from the people around me, making me sob.

End of Flashback

I walked out of school, clutching my bag with one hand while the other was clenched into a fist. I couldn't believe this was happening to me again! I felt tears prickle my eyes but blinked them away. I wouldn't show any weakness from now on.

I took the usual shortcut from the school to my house or in this case, my Aunt's house. When my parents died, I had to move in with Aunt Carla. Aunt Carla is cool. She loves me as if I'm one of her children, which I am grateful for. I used to go to a psychologist but stopped when the others noticed that there was no use.

The main reason for going to the psychologist was attempting suicide. I wanted to die a short period after my parents died but Aunt Carla was there to call 911.

I felt like everything was taken away from me. Every night, I sat in my room and wondered: Why did this happen to me? Many questions go through my mind but they remain unanswered.

I spotted the house a few feet away and walked faster. Does my aunt have any idea of this, of me going with my uncle to another place? A part of me said, of course she has an idea, when another part disagreed. Once I was near the house, I saw Aunt Carla waiting for me outside the door.

She was in her usual plain clothes and red apron. Aunt Carla had dark blue eyes that were similar to my mother's. Aunt Carla had dark golden curls that stop at her waist. She had a smile that could brighten any person's world.

"Good afternoon sweetie." She greeted. I gave her a small smile before entering the house. The house I was living in was normal. It consists of four rooms; a living room and three bedrooms. I looked at the usual white walls then ran up to my room. I knew that my aunt wanted to talk to me.

I entered my bedroom and threw my bag on my bed. My room is blue and white. My twin sized bright blue bed was in the middle of my room while my white closet was on the other end of the room. My curtains were blue and I had a window next to my closet that had a view of everything outside.

Someone knocked on the door, making me turn. I was not surprised when I saw Aunt Carla behind the door. She has a timid smile on her face as she closed the door quietly. She took a few steps then sat on the bed, patting the space next to her.

I realized that she wanted me to sit next to her so I moved forward and sat beside her. I knew what she wanted to say. 'Violet dear, I know you're under a lot of stress but you have to travel and go to your uncle's school.'

"Honey, your uncle called me today and-" she sighed and rubbed her temples. "You have to pack and be ready tomorrow morning. You're moving to your Uncle's school." I thought I saw sorrow in her eyes but mentally shook my head; everyone pitied me.

"Ok." I answered quickly before standing up and walking to the bathroom, closing the door behind me. I put my hands on the sink and closed my eyes; everything was going to repeat again. New life, new school, being an outcast, everything's going to change again.

After a few minutes, I got out of the bathroom and saw no one in my room so I plumbed on my bed sighing as I thought of what will happen. Soon, I was drifting off and at last, I fell asleep.
