Chapter 2 Speculation

Finnegan's image and Jessica's face kept alternating in my mind, and while I wanted to confirm my suspicion, I was vehemently denying it deep within.

I couldn't bring myself to accept this fact.

It can't be.

Finnegan loves me.

From our acquaintance to love, to having this home and our three lovely children, he has always been caring, devoted, and protective of me.

Throughout these ten years, we have never had a single argument, and his affection towards me has always been unwavering. How could he possibly do something like this to me?

It's absolutely impossible!

But if it's Jessica, that doesn't make sense either.

Before she came to our house, I didn't even know her. There was no grudge between us, and she had a high salary at my home.

When she first came to my house, it was me who went to pick her. She is two years older than me, and she looks neat. After graduating from high school, she entered this profession and became a top-notch housekeeper.

When she first came, my husband seemed a little dissatisfied. He even asked me quietly, "She's too young, isn't she? Is she reliable?"

"You think young people are unreliable? She looks nice and must be nimble! She is a great housekeeper; you're too picky!" I teased him with a smirk. "I should be the one who's worried, right?"

He teasingly pinched my cheek and replied, "What are you thinking? Don't talk nonsense!"

Then he hugged me and compromised, "Okay, as long as you feel comfortable with her, she is here for you. I'm just worried that our kids won't like her and will want a new housekeeper after a while! It's quite a headache!"

I didn't expect Jessica to have such patience; it had been almost eight years. We had gotten along well during these eight years, I treated her like a sister, so how could she possibly drug me?

Moreover, if it were her, Finnegan wouldn't fail to notice the change in my condition after taking the medicine...

I really dared not think further.

Not sure if it was due to not taking the medication or the cat's condition that had scared me, but I broke away from my usual drowsiness. Like an awakened spirit from a foggy state, I felt unusually alert, with every cell in my body bursting with energy, consumed by extreme excitement.

Fear made it impossible for me to close my eyes.

It was such a long night.

But what chilled me even more was that during this whole time, no one observed my condition, nor did anyone inquire if I had eaten.

I had to accept a bitter truth: my days had been lonely, with an independent space where no one cared. It seemed like Finnegan's affection and concern for me weren't as apparent as I thought.

Just like tonight, the care I expected from my husband hadn't materialized. Perhaps he had become accustomed to my constant drowsiness.

As the sky gradually brightened, Lucky, who had been asleep under the covers all night, began to regain consciousness slowly.

At first, its eyes were unfocused, and it let out a feeble meow.

After a while, it moved its limbs slightly, then more vigorously, turned over, curled up next to me, assuming its usual sleeping position. However, it still seemed lazy and lacked energy, indicating that it wasn't entirely awake.

This condition bore an eerie resemblance to how I felt every time I woke up, deepening my suspicions.

Helplessly, I hugged the cat tightly, burying my face in its soft fur, shedding silent tears.

I couldn't understand why this was happening. Who was behind all this?

After a while, I raised my head, clenched my teeth, and told myself firmly that I couldn't sit idly by; I had to find the truth.

Determined, I realized that I couldn't tip my hand yet. I had to continue 'sleeping'!

First and foremost, I needed to find out who drugged me and for what purpose.

At this moment, I clung to a glimmer of hope, willing to believe that Jessica was involved, making it easier for me to accept.

But reality hit hard, shattering my hopes into painful shards, much harsher than I'd expected.
