The Rebel's are back

“I tried to picture me without you but I can’t because we could be immortals!” I sang along early on a Friday morning while impersonating Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy. I was standing on my bed, with a hockey stick as my guitar jumping up and down singing along. That is until the door to my room suddenly open and my dad stood there staring at me with both eyebrows raised.

“Should I leave you alone with your hockey stick for a while before coming back?” He asked sounding amused. Well, this was embarrassing. “Normally a person knocks before just walking in on their daughter, I could have been naked.” I said getting down from my bed placing my hockey stick down against the wall.

“I did knock, but it seems you were too busy.” He said motioning towards my hockey stick. “Oops,” I replied sheepishly. “Be downstairs in five minutes, I’m taking you guys to school.” My father said on his way to close to the door when he paused, it looked like he wanted to say something but he decided against it as he shut the door instead.

I got dressed for school and headed down the stairs where my father and Jonah waited for me. I grabbed my bags and followed them out to the car. “I’m riding shotgun!” Jonah yelled grabbing for the passenger side door’s handle.

“In your dreams, little man.” I said reaching out grabbing the door handle. “You are way too young to be handling a shotgun.” Jonah just frowned at me. “As if you could.” He protested. “Do you want me to demonstrate?” I asked. “Be my guest.”

“Okay.” I said slapping him at the back of the head. “Sasha!” He whined holding onto his head.

I slipped into the passenger seat once Jonah gave up and found my dad looking at us amused. “I thought you guys were besties.”

“We are, it’s just as a big sister’s duty I feel I have to give him some sisterly love.” My dad chuckled while Jonah rolled his eyes at me.

My father decided to drop me off at school first and Jonah lastly. “Isn’t that lover boy?” Jonah asked pointing at Brandon who just got to school as he was stepping out of his fancy car.

“Do you even know what lover boy means?” I asked opening the car door to get out.

“Please tell me that you don’t.” My father said before I could close the door. “I can’t say that I don’t.” I said closing the door, smiling at my father’s face. I waved him goodbye before making my way towards the school where I found Brandon waiting for me next to his car.

“Morning, Adams.” He greeted taking off his sunglasses, showing me those deep blue eyes of him.

“Morning, my lover boy.” I joked.

“My lover boy?” He asked quirking an eyebrow.

“Yeah, my little brother has this crazy idea in his head that you are my lover boy.”

“I hope you informed him what it means.” He said following me.

“And spoil his vocabulary?” Brandon just shook his head at me.

“Shit.” I cursed while tapping my empty jean pockets. “What’s up?” Brandon asked taking out a cigarette. “I forgot my cigarettes.”

“Maybe that is a clue that you have to stop.” He said handing me one.

“Says the one who smokes.” I said holding it so he could light it.

“I can stop any day.” He said blowing out the smoke.

“If that is so, why haven’t you?”

“Maybe because I don’t have something to make me want to.”

“I will stop if you prove to me that you will.” I said resting my back against the wall.

“What do I get if I prove to you that I can?”

“You save a life.” He just chuckled at me, taking a pull from his cigarette while looking around the school grounds. He looked back at me, thinking for a moment.

“I will stop if you try-out for the girl’s hockey team.”

“No.”

“Why not?” He asked frowning.

“That’s still sacred ground you are stepping on.” I told him.

“Fine.”

“I never took you for a person to back down.”

“I’m not backing down from anything.”

“To me, it looks like you are avoiding it.”

“Like you are avoiding, Clarissa.” Okay, maybe that was the wrong thing to say. I found myself pressed up against the wall as Brandon loomed over me. “I can face her any day, minute, and second. I don’t run away from the truth. I can’t say the same about you, Adams.” He was so damn close, so close that I can smell him and feel his body heat. Our chests were inches away from touching, he was keeping a safe distance.

And this was just crazy.

I raised my hands and pressed them against his chest and turned us around so his back was pressed up against the wall. “I’m not running away from shit and you should watch out who you are talking to, Hills.” I found him looking at my lips and then back up so our eyes connected.

My eyes widen for a second when I realized he was showing a piece of emotion. I pushed myself upright and away from him. “Things happened in my life that you don’t have to know about.” Was my last words to him before I walked away.

My phone decided to start ringing on my way to class, I didn’t even look at the Caller Id as I answered the phone. “Yeah.” I answered unfriendlily.

“Wow, did you just kill somebody and realized it was a mistake?”

I came to a stop when I heard a familiar voice. “Jaylin?” I asked surprised.

“Hey, kid.”

“How did you even get this number?” I asked.

“You sure made it impossible to be reached. It’s like you went rogue.”

“As if you would care.” I said hanging up on her, I don’t know why I looked over my shoulder expecting Brandon to still be there where I left him but he was gone. I don’t know why I felt a pang of disappointment. I headed to class after making sure I switched off my phone.

Classes went by in a blur, even things at the Pub was quiet and Maggie decided to send me home early. Meredith was still making dinner when I got home, I decided to catch up on some episodes of Lucifer when Jonah decided to rip the remote from my hand and changed the channel.

“Jonah” I growled trying to grab him but I missed. “Where are those reflexes now?” He asked challenging me. He jumped from one couch to the other, as I tried to catch him he slipped through my fingers making my dad chuckle as he was reading the newspaper. He started darting to exit the room that is when I tackled him to the ground. “Oh come on that is unfair” He whined as I sat on top of him taking the remote from him. “Just unfair like you jumping from one couch to the other” I said standing up. “Not my fault you are slow.” He said and that was the time for the doorbell to go off.

I went to open the door, when I opened the door he ripped the remote from my grasp. “Jonah, I am going to kill you by hanging you upside down beating you with the remote until you beg for mercy” I growled. “Well, that seems a little bit harsh.” A voice said making me whip my head around until I was staring at the two people that walked out of my life. “Well looks like she forgot about us.” Camille said making Jaylin chuckle and making me look at them with wide eye.
