Chapter 3

My hand was squeezed gently and a thumb gently stroked the back of my hand.

As if he wanted to calm me down.

"Where do you want to go? Tell me and I'll take you there."

I wanted to be alone have no one around me.

"Thanks, but that's not necessary," I murmured under my breath, only then realizing what I had just done.

I squinted up at him uncertainly, expecting to be slapped, but his bronze eyes just looked at me softly.

"In other circumstances I would have respected your wish, but now I can't just leave you alone."

He looked at me waiting.

"It would be nice if you could take me home." I whispered.

"Okay, we'll have to talk there."

Though his voice was gentle, that statement still sounded like a threat to me.

That was all I needed, a serious chat with the alpha.

I bit back every comment and just let him pull me along. I didn't have a choice anyway.

He led me to a large black sedan parked in my father's driveway.

I never thought that I would ever be in a car like this.

The Alpha let me in first and as soon as he was in the car himself, it started to move.

Shouldn't I tell him my address? Maybe, but I preferred to keep quiet, if he wanted to know, he would have said something by now.

I sat quietly next to this dominant werewolf who seemed to be watching me constantly.

The half hour to my house would be fun.

"Why didn't you grant yourself earlier?"

What was that question? But I knew I couldn't lie to him, he would notice right away.

"What could I have done?" I answered him softly.

"You could have said something."

He sounded angry, whether it was me or the situation I couldn't tell.

But how did he imagine it? I could hardly have reacted like he did.

I was also a wolf, but I was a woman and an omega. My position would always be below.

I really didn't want to end up in my father's basement again.

But after today I would sooner or later anyway.

"What's happening?"

The Alpha's voice snapped me out of my thoughts, but I just shook my head.

"There is nothing."

"Do not lie to me. I can feel your rising panic. Tell me what's wrong with you.“, he ordered me in a dark voice.

I looked at him a little uncertainly. I had known that lying would do no good. If I didn't tell him myself, he would force me.

"I'm afraid."

It took a lot of strength to make this admission, but what should I do? Keep lying?

"About me? You don't have to, you have nothing to fear from me. I won't hurt you."

I definitely shook my head.

"No, not in front of you." Which surprised me, because it was more or less the truth.

"My father won't let this happened to him today."

The Alpha finally turned to me.

"How do you mean that?"

My gaze wandered to my hands.

“We deeply offended him for just leaving like that. Kind of like he had to vent his anger.”

The silence that followed my sentence was startling.

"You mean I insulted him and you'll get the anger." He stated coolly.

"It's always like this, after all," I slipped out before I could think about what I'd just said.

My eyes widened in shock. Why couldn't I shut up? Hadn't the years here taught me anything? He would talk to my father and then I wouldn't even survive the next day.

I closed my eyes and waited for what would happen now. But nothing happened.

I slowly opened my eyelids again and looked at the man sitting next to me.

The alpha sat quietly next to me, his head thrown back and his eyes closed.

After he finally said something, his voice sounded dangerously controlled.

"Is that correct?"

"Yes, of course it's true. I would know if you lied to me.” He answered his own question.

"Why didn't anyone tell me that?" he snapped at me angrily. "It's my job to take care of things like that. You should have contacted me."

When he looked at me like I did, he flinched back and his eyes softened surprisingly again.

"Have no fear, I will not let anyone ever harm you again, you have my word."

I looked at him in disbelief. Was he serious?

Yeah okay, he said I was under his protection, but like this? No, I must have misunderstood.

"What do you mean?"

He took my hand again and looked at me from his bronze eyes with such certainty that I got goosebumps.

"Just like I said. There's no way I'm leaving you in a place like this.”

The feeling of uneasiness spread through me. I didn't know if I liked that or not. Of course I wanted to get out of here. But not from one prison to another.

"I need to know what's going on here before I can leave this town with a clear conscience."

The limousine stopped and my door opened.

A slightly older man with short black hair and a mustache gave me a warm smile and motioned for me to get out. Goods has actually already arrived at my apartment?

The Alpha followed me outside and surveyed the apartment complex in front of us.

"So, this is where you live," he stated.

Without saying a word, I just nodded and led the way to my home.

When he got there, he looked around. He was certainly used to better things, but I couldn't afford anything else and at least here I had always been safe.

"Unfortunately, I can't offer you anything. My fridge is empty because I haven't gone shopping yet.”

No lie, even if the reason for this was not so much the time but the money.

"I do not need anything. Let's talk."

He walked into my tiny living room with sure steps and sat on my couch. I stopped in front of him, a bit hesitant. Should I sit with him? stand still? Put me on the floor? Luckily, he made that decision for me.

"Please sit with me. I want to be able to talk to you in peace. Please tell me everything you are ready for.”

I sat next to him with shaky legs. Why was I so nervous now? It was possible for me to be next to him without shaking like a fawn.

He looked at me while he was waiting and I finally began to talk hesitantly.

"As you may have noticed, I am an omega. So, it's not like the pack treated me any differently than my position demands.”

My gut told me I should be angry about it, but my head knew I was. My birth had sealed my fate.

"So, you really think they have the right to treat you like this?" he asked me softly, his eyes searching my face.

What could I say, so I just shrugged.

"I want a spoken answer this time, Elisabeth."
