A Glorious Mistake

Rachael's POV

I heard gasps from all around the room and I was as confused as ever, unable to put the pieces of what went on together.

With no clue of what to do next, I took off on my heels, running out of the throne room as fast as I could without stopping. My room was the only safe haven on my mind, as I ran.

I heard a few people calling after me but it was of no use. I wasn't going to stop for any reason. Everything was just too much for me to bear.

I got to my room, quickly opened the door and got in. It was a very tiny room, tinier than any other servants room in the palace, and having a torn mattress inside didn't help that much. Perks of being the only slave in crimson pack.

I needed air, so I stuck my head outside my window and just breathe in the fresh air steadily.

"What's going on?" I said, as I began to pace around the room, wondering what had just happened in there. I never thought I or anyone else could have four mates all at once. It had to be a joke!

I must have heard wrongly or...

"Maybe I'm just thinking too much. Perhaps, I got something wrong in there." I said out loud shaking my head sideways.

I smiled like a crazy person, and continued pacing around in a bid to calm myself down. I haven't been this anxious in a very long while and I didn't like that feeling one bit.

*You can keep lying to yourself all you want Rach, but you know what you felt and there's no denying it...* My wolf, Eliana said to me. *You felt a pull toward all four of them. You can't even lie to me because I felt it too.*

Eliana had always been quick to say the truth at all times, even if her opinion wasn't needed or going to be hurtful. I had told her not to be so direct in her assessment but she never listened. It was a part of her that I could never take away.

"But I still believe that it's not possible, Eliana. No matter what you say." I maintained. "Wolves are supposed to only have one mate. That's how the whole mating system works. Just one mate."

"But if peradventure... there's a situation that warrants more than that, at least, it should be two and not four. I believe four is too outrageous to be true."

"Rachael!" I heard someone yell while banging heavily on my door. I walked to the door and opened it up to see a maid with long blonde hair, standing right in front of me with a broom in her right hand.

"The Alpha has asked to see you in the throne room, immediately!" She informed me turning away to leave before pausing to re-echo a few words. "He needs to see you immediately, Rachael. I don't think he needs to be kept waiting even for a second."

She walked away and I followed behind as quickly as I could. In my hurrying, I may have forgot to shut the door to my room.

I knew why he called me. It wasn't hard to figure out. It had to be the whole mate thing. It must have also gotten him confused, about how all his sons could have just one mate.

I got into the throne room and bowed immediately, "You called for me Alpha Blackwood."

"Here she is, my children. This is your mate." Alpha Blackwood announced, laughing mockingly.

"That's not funny dad." Justin immediately countered with a frown. "That's just nonsense. There must have been a mistake somewhere. There's no way that this disgusting girl could be the mate of any of us, not to talk of all four of us."

Justin stared at me with disgust, his eyes glaring at me with so much hatred. He looked disappointed, probably I was the last person he ever thought he would get mated to.

I scoffed at the disgust displayed on his face, if I was still Racheal Quill, princess of the Silver Moon pack, first child and daughter of Alpha Quill, he definitely won't have that look on his face. Men would grovel at my feet just so I could say yes to a date, and here he was being disgusted.

I might have lost my beauty, but I know for a fact that I am still a beauty. And for this reason most women of the crimson pack are jealous.. jealous that I am still beautiful even in dirt.

"You think so?" Alpha Blackwood asked, before turning to one of his guards. "Get the Priestess this instant. Tell her I need her immediately."

"Yes, Alpha." He bowed and quickly left to call the Priestess, whilst the rest of us waited for their return.

The boys drew close to each other and began to communicate in whispers. I strained my ears, to find out what they might have been saying but I couldn't. So, I chose to use my time to just look around the room just to keep myself busy.

The cake was still there on the table in the centre of the room. No one had touched it. It was exactly as I left it, and the music too had been put off due to all that was going on.

The guest didn't leave though. The event before them was just as entertaining as the party itself and they didn't want to leave. Why would they? They were about to witness something that had never happened in the Pack to the best of my knowledge, or any Pack at all. No one could walk away from that.

I also knew that they hoped to continue the party once we were done.

After a few minutes of awkward silence interrupted by whispers here and there, the guard finally walked into the room with the Priestess walking behind him.

She wore a long, white gown, just like she always wore whenever she stepped out in the open. She had a red cloth tied around her head and her waist and then held a long, wooden stick that had several white chalk markings.

Each time I saw her, I was always tempted to laugh at her appearance but I dared not. No one would dare try something like that with the Priestess who is rumored to possess divine powers from the goddess.

Yet in such a time and age, I didn't think I should be blamed for finding it funny that she stuck with such an old-fashioned dress code.

The people in the room stood to acknowledge her presence. Of course, except for the Alpha and his sons. The Alpha remained seated on his throne but his sons were on their feet not because of the Priestess but because they were already standing before she arrived.

She looked around the entire room as if she was trying to take note of everyone there. Maybe she wanted to see if anyone dared fail to acknowledge her. I bowed my head a bit, just to be safe.

She finally made her way past the people and stopped right in front of Alpha Blackwood. "To what do I owe this summon?" She asked him, looking him right in the eyes. No one else can pull that off and go scot-free, except her.

"I have called for you because something unusual happened right before every one of us not so long ago..." he began. "My sons here all claim to have found their mate and it happened to be just one woman. This slave standing right beside you. We want to know if this is true or if we're mistaken."

She turned to me and suddenly gripped my right arm as I gasped. Then she drew her nose close to me and sniffed thrice before turning to stare at the boys.

"It is true, Alpha Blackwood. She is the mate of all four sons of yours. Yet, she can only be the eternal mate of one of them; the one which she'll choose amongst them. That is the will of the Goddess."

The boys looked at themselves confused and short of words. I, too, could have no doubts anymore since the Priestess had said it herself. I wondered why of all the men that I could have been with, the goddess chose people who despised me; the sons of the man whom I hated with all my heart.

Smiling and turning to his sons, Alpha Blackwood spread his arms and said, "I'm going to make this more interesting. Whosoever amongst you wins the heart of Racheal and gets her to choose him, will be the next in line to be Alpha of the Crimson Pack."
