Chapter 2 Losing Her
LYRA POV
I woke up to the sound of a furious voice beside me. For a moment, everything felt blurry, like I was floating between a dream and a nightmare. Then I opened my eyes and saw my mother’s worried face and my father’s furious one staring back at me.
“How could he do that to my daughter?” my father roared, pacing the room with clenched fists. “Of all people, he had to reject her and cause her pain. How dare he! I will wage war against his empire. My werewolf kingdom will never tolerate their princess being treated like that!”
His voice echoed off the walls, vibrating through me. I blinked slowly, trying to understand why he sounded so angry.
“You can’t interfere, or else it will destroy them” my mother said softly, though her eyes were lined with tears. “This is part of their destiny. I have known she was his mate since she was born.”
My father stopped pacing. “Destiny or not, he caused her pain.”
“What are you talking about?” I asked weakly, sitting up and leaning against the headboard as my head spun.
My mother immediately rushed to my side. “You’re awake. Oh, my dear nothing. How are you feeling?”
“I’m fine I think. What happened to me?” I asked, even though a strange ache was already forming in my chest, like something inside me remembered before I did.
And then like a dam breaking the memories flooded back.
His voice.
His words.
His rejection.
My heart clenched painfully, and I gasped, grabbing my chest as tears poured down my cheeks.
He rejected me.
Why?
Was it because I was his friend’s daughter?
Because he thought I was too young for him?
Or maybe because I just wasn’t enough for a man like him.
I knew about his wayward life. I always thought it was because he hadn’t found his mate. Because once he did, he would change. He would settle. He would love.
But now I know the truth.
He loved that kind of life.
Women. Parties. Freedom.
Everything except me.
“My love, what’s wrong?” my father asked, voice trembling with anger and helplessness.
“Nothing,” I whispered, wiping my tears. “Mother, I want to go to the witch coven. I don’t want to stay here anymore.”
My mother exchanged a look with my father, one full of sadness and something else fear.
“Alright, my dear,” she said softly. “You can go. Your grandparents will take care of you.”
“Thank you,” I said as they both stood and quietly walked out of the room, giving me space.
When the door clicked shut, I looked around my room. Everything felt different. The walls, the bed, the sunlight sneaking in through the curtains it all felt like part of a life I didn’t want anymore.
“I will never come back here,” I whispered to myself, swallowing the lump in my throat.
But the moment I said it, something inside me shifted. My wolf stirred weakly, like she wanted to protest but didn’t have the strength.
“Are you still there?” I whispered inside my mind, reaching for her.
Silence.
A heavy, cold silence.
I tried again.
Nothing.
Panic rose in my chest, tightening my breath. “No, no, no don’t leave me. Please.”
My wolf had always been gentle, warm, fierce when she needed to be. She was my other half, my strength, my protector. And now she felt distant. Fading. Like she was slipping away from me bit by bit. I was supposed to shift into her last night but the rejection made everything chaotic. Now I was losing her, no I can't.
I curled my knees to my chest, shaking. The rejection didn’t just break my heart, it was breaking her too.
“Please answer me,” I whispered. “Please”
But only emptiness answered.
The room grew colder. My breaths came out shallow. My chest ached with a pain deeper than heartbreak.
Then, suddenly, a sharp, burning sensation shot through my body, so fierce I screamed and clutched my stomach. It felt like something inside me was tearing apart, fading, dying.
“Mother!” I cried, but my voice barely came out.
I fell off the bed and hit the floor, trembling uncontrollably. My vision blurred. My limbs felt heavy, numb.
My wolf.
my soul.
my other half.
She was slipping away.
“Don’t go” I whispered with the last bit of strength I had. “I need you.”
A faint whimper echoed in my mind, so soft I wasn’t sure if it was real.
Then nothing.
Complete silence.
Darkness began to pull me under, swallowing me whole. My body felt cold, hollow like the rejection was draining the life out of me inch by inch.
As everything faded, one thought remained, echoing through my breaking mind:
He didn’t just reject me.
He destroyed my wolf.
And with that final realization, the darkness claimed me completely.
