Chapter 2: How It All Started

CHAPTER 2

Subtitle: HOW IT ALL STARTED

(Loving you wasn't part of the deal)

In the restroom...

Milo stared at his reflection in the mirror, his blood boiling with rage, he couldn't stop remembering the insult he keeps on receiving from Lillian and her dad.

He turned on the water faucet, then he splashed some water on his face.

He stared at the mirror once again, and in anger, he punched the mirror.

The mirror gave a loud cracking sound, his hand was bleeding profusely, but he didn't seem to mind the pain, the pain in his heart was much worse than the pain in his hand.

His mind drifted off to how it all started.

#flash back

Milo stared at his mother's face with so much pain in his eyes.

They were at the hospital, his mother has been diagnosed with a heart disease, and she'll need to get a heart transplant soon, or they might lose her forever.

The money the doctor requested wasn't something they could afford, and he doesn't want to lose his mother either, but what could he do? There was nothing he could do to save his mother.

A lone tear slipped down his cheek as he continued staring at her pale face, he was at the verge of losing his mother, and there was nothing he could do to save her.

They were so poor that they could barely afford a three square meal in a day.

He was jobless, he had applied for a job in so many places, they had promised to call him back, but none turned up.

His father worked as a driver, and his salary could barely get them through.

Why is life so unfair? What has he done to deserve this cruelty from life?

His dream was to be successful, his dream was to make it big in life, so he could take care of his parents since he was their only child, but he is not even close to achieving his dream, he is just useless.

He was so lost in his thoughts that he didn't notice when his father came in.

"Milo." Francis called, placing a hand on Milo's shoulder.

"Huh." Milo said, coming back to reality.

"What's wrong son?"

"It's nothing dad." Milo replied, wiping away his tears with both hands.

"I know you're worried about your mother," Francis said. "But you don't have to worry son, I'll definitely find a way, things will get better son, do not worry." Francis assured.

"You say things will get better dad, but I don't see that happening, mom has been diagnosed with a heart disease, where are we to get the money for her surgery? We can barely afford money to feed ourselves, where are we going to get that kind of money dad?" He stated. "And I'm just a useless son, I can't do anything to help out here, I can't even come up with a single penny." He cried.

Seeing his son like this broke Francis's heart.

"Don't say that son, you are not useless, don't ever see yourself as a useless person," he said to his son. "So what? Even if life is unfair to us, even if life throws us down so many times, what matters is that we get back up son, trust your father, I'll find a way, we will get through this." Francis assured once again.

"Dad." Milo cried, then he embraced his father.

"It's alright son, it's alright." Francis said, patting his back lovingly.

Francis stared at his wife, he knew he couldn't let her die, and he'll do anything to save her, anything at all, even if it means he will have to lay down his pride and seek help from his boss.

"Please sir, help me, I don't want to lose my wife." Francis pleaded in tears.

"I'm sorry Francis, but I can't help you." Henry said.

They were both in Henry's office at home.

He had talked to his son about this before coming to ask his boss for help, they had both agreed to give it a trial.

Milo had come with him, but he waited outside the office, while his dad went to talk to Henry alone.

"Please sir, I beg you to help me, help me save my wife, we can't afford the money for her surgery, please help me sir." Francis said, then he got on his knees.

Henry was unmoved by Francis's actions, why should he care if his wife lives or dies? It's none of his business what happens to the lady, he couldn't care less.

They had better find another way to solve their problems, because he wouldn't want to waste his precious money on irrelevant things.

"You are wasting your time Francis, it's better you leave right now, I can't help you." Henry said, his voice cold as ice.

Francis had no idea what to do anymore, this had been his only option, there was no one else he could turn to for help.

He has finally seen the true face of his boss, despite the fact that he had explained it all to him, he still refuses to help him.

Henry's rejection cut deep into Francis's heart, he was at the verge of giving up, but the memories of his lovely wife won't let him do that.

How could he watch the woman he loves so much die in such a way? He can't watch her die.

"Please sir, I am not asking this for free, just loan me the money and I promise to pay it all back." Francis said. Henry laughed.

"Pay it back? You talk like you could ever do that, don't forget your status Francis, paying back such a huge amount of money will take you and your family ages, I doubt you will ever be able to do." Henry scoffed.

"Have mercy sir, please save my wife." Francis cried out, then he threw himself at Henry's feet.

Henry looked at Francis in disgust.

'What do I do about this dirt?' He thought.

Milo stood outside Henry's office, he was so impatient, and he wondered what could possibly be going on inside.

He heard the footsteps of someone approaching the office, he raised his head up and his eyes met with that of the young beautiful lady.

She halted, her gaze were fixed on him, she examined him from head to toe, then she bit her bottom lip lustfully.

The man standing before her was very dashing, she couldn't help but fall in love with him, and she wanted him to be hers.

She didn't seem to mind his poor outfit, it didn't stop her from seeing his handsomeness.

Lillian smiled as she cat walked to him, and only one thing was on her mind.

What she wants, she gets.
