#####Chapter 4. Generous Nature
By Denis
And now?
The job of assistant or secretary is easy, it's a different field, but I'm used to dealing with managers and suppliers.
There's a knock at the door; it's Leonardo's partner, Ricardo Smith, he must be about the same age.
He introduces himself and shakes my hand.
—Nice to meet you, sir, I'm Denis Blotime.
When I said my last name, he looked at me, scrutinizing me more than Leonardo did, which made me nervous.
—Do you have anything to do with Blotime party supplies?
—Yes, Javier and Gabriela are my siblings.
—Really? I know Gabriela and…she's different from you.
—Yes, nature was...generous to my brothers, but not to me.
—I didn't mean to say that.
I smiled at him.
He seemed more uncomfortable than Leonardo, at least that's what it looked like to me.
—Relax, I'm here because of an ad looking for an ugly woman, not just unattractive, but downright ugly, and that's why I got the job.
I said, trying to seem over it and that I had more than accepted my appearance.
He blushed, he was uncomfortable, I think Leonardo was too at this point.
I'm going to have to talk to Gabriela, because it seems that even though they were a couple a long time ago, they can still talk on the phone.
—Do you have contact with your siblings?
—Obviously, they are my brothers.
I'm definitely going to have to talk to Gabriela.
I don't know how I'm going to explain it to her and convince her to cover for me; there are already too many people involved.
—Say hi to her if you see her, although I think I'll see her first…
—Are they dating?
I ask, knowing that they are not.
—Not exactly…
—Okay, don't worry, we don't see each other much. Now that I'm going to work here, I don't think I'll see you much at all. Like I told Mr. Haber before, my brothers are too ashamed of me, and to hide there, I prefer to have my own job, even though I receive a check from Blotime Imports every month. Do you have a garage for employees?
They stared at me strangely; perhaps I had too much confidence despite being so ugly, which would be justified by the amount of money I handle.
—Yes, although not for everyone, but our assistants always had a place.
Leonardo replied that he had been quiet for a while and I think he had been staring at me too much.
—Do I need to give someone my car's license plate number in order to get in?
—To the receptionist, downstairs.
—Any other questions, Mr. Haber?
I ask him with a smile.
—Call me Leonardo, we're going to work together and I don't want us to be so distant.
Mmm, I would call you love, darling, sweetheart, life…
—Thank you very much, Mr. Leonardo.
—Without the gentleman.
—Wouldn't that be awkward?
How fake I am!
—Would it be for you?
—No sir, I mean… Leonardo.
I said goodbye to them, Melisa looked at me with a relieved smile when I left, it was almost 12 noon.
I couldn't go to my brothers' company dressed like that, the only option was to call her urgently, in case they called to ask for me. Maybe despite my ugliness, they don't suspect that they are my brothers and don't call, but Ricardo can call Gaby personally and talk about me.
Before I even got to the car, Angy was already calling me.
—Angy, I'm your brother's new employee.
I tell you this while I relax, because I was really quite nervous during the interview.
-Congratulations!
—Thank you! Now I have to sort out some issues; your brother and his partner are still in contact with my brothers, and we didn't take into account that Ricardo was my sister's boyfriend.
-Shit.
—Yes, I can't involve my brother in this madness, nor do I think Leonardo or Ricardo would tell my brothers that I'm working with them because I'm ugly, but I don't know what kind of relationship Ricardo might have with my sister, I'll call her and I'll call you in a bit.
I quickly said goodbye to my friend and called my sister.
It was hard to get him to answer; they must be swamped at the office, but that also reassured me that I hadn't spoken to Ricardo Smith yet.
—Hello little sister.
I call her mimosa.
—Hi Denis, you need to get back to work now, we're working at full speed.
I thought those were going to be his words.
—I can't, something came up…
—Did something happen to you?
She asked me, worried.
I smiled; my brothers were always overprotective of me.
—Nothing bad, the thing is… I’ve always been in love with my friend Angy’s brother.
-AND?
He asks me, knowing that I always loved Leonardo.
—That this year they lost 4 secretaries because they ended up marrying businessmen connected to them…
-They?
—Let me explain, the thing is, he wants an ugly secretary.
-I don't understand anything.
He's going to think I'm crazy, and it's true, I'm crazy in love with Leonardo.
—I went to Aunt Rosita's house and grabbed a bunch of old clothes, from her I got a wig, I made myself look ugly with makeup and introduced myself as a secretary…
—What did you do?
—Disguised...and I stayed.
I kept talking.
—Did you get in because you're ugly? That's impossible, you're beautiful.
—I'm sending you photos of my work; I want to be close to him and win him over.
—You're crazy.
I knew she was going to think that.
—I know, the thing is you went out with the business partner.
-With who?
He chokes up when he asks; he knows perfectly well who the partner is.
—Angy's brother is Leonardo Haber, my great love, and his partner is Ricardo Smith.
We both said that last part at the same time.
—And they were classmates with Javier, classmates from high school.
-I know.
—Don't tell him I'm pretty, Ricardo implied he had something going on with you.
—That son of a bitch...
—He's like our brother or like Leonardo, terrified of settling down and being faithful to just one woman.
—Didn't he recognize you?
—Like me? No, Leonardo never looked at me when he was with his sister, I didn't tell him that Angy was my best friend, I only told him that we had been classmates in school and college.
—And you're telling me all this because…
—In case Ricardo calls you.
—We need you here.
He tells me curtly, "It's not that he's saying it because of me, he just gets upset when Ricardo's name is mentioned."
—Porfi, I just signed a contract with them, I promise I'll keep an eye on Ricardo and send you reports.
—How do you tell Javi that you're not going to work with us?
He says, ignoring my words about Ricardo.
—I didn't think about it, I assured Leonardo that I wouldn't have a problem with you, because you were so unhappy with my appearance that you were ashamed of me and hid me away.
—What are you thinking? Are you out of your mind?
She's angry, she doesn't usually say bad words, she only says them when she's furious.
—It's not my fault they want to hide me away because I'm so ugly.
I can imagine my sister's face right now.
—Come here immediately.
—You're going to be scared.
—Come here now!
I have no choice but to go to the importer. They didn't like that Leonardo and Ricardo told them they were ashamed of me and wanted to hide me. The thing is, Leonardo isn't going to suspect anything, because it's obvious he thinks ugly women have fewer rights than beautiful ones, or at least that it's not easy to fall in love with an unattractive woman.
Of course, that has nothing to do with the fact that her siblings or family don't love a person because she is ugly.
I only said that because he's obsessed with the idea that his secretaries get married because they're beautiful, and I took advantage of it, thinking that maybe he won't stop even though they're different issues.
