PROLOGUE

Today is our last day of being a high school student. Three months from now, we are bound to welcome our college lives which, for sure, will be a totally different world as compared to what we have right now.

To be honest, I really don’t know what to feel about it. Half of me is excited for a new environment but another part of me knows that it is time to say goodbye to everything that I am enjoying right now – including the mornings where I can see Ken rushing his way to their room because classes are going to start already, his cuteness every time that he's having a hard time picking his food for recess and lunch, and him waiting for his driver to come during dismissal. Basically, everything about Ken.

In our four years in high school, we never had a chance to be close with each other – not even being in the same class or even just as co-members of any organization. He never joined anything aside from that dance organization and since I badly want to meet him in person, I tried to audition in that organization for four consecutive years but luck isn’t really on my favour. Well, I admit - I really suck big time when it comes to dancing so it was not surprising at all how I never got to be qualified for it.

“Hey, Kyle! Have you passed your final requirement already?” Cath asked as she rush her way towards me.

“Gosh! What took you so long?" I exclaimed ignoring her question because I've been waiting for her for quite a while now. "I already passed mine since you're so slow," I kept on whining.

“Hey! That exam was so hard! I’m not gifted your brain, please,” she defended herself.

Actually, I agree with that. I expected an easier exam because it's already our last in high school but they still made it hard. Good thing that I've prepared enough so I was still able to answer that.

“Anyways, wait for me. I’ll make this quick,” she then said and lifted her folder to show me that she's talking about her final requirement.

She didn't let me answer anymore and leave as fast as she can because she knows that I'm going to continue whining so I chuckled a little bit.

When she's gone, I continued reading the novel that I brought today because I already expected that I will wait for Cath to finish the exam. As I enjoy my reading, I heard a very familiar voice that really caught my attention.

“I’ll be doing my audition for Philippine Academy later. David and I will try to follow but I ain’t sure about it.”

I felt like my world suddenly turned slow as I heard that he’ll be doing his audition for Philippine Academy later. I never thought that I'll get an answer on our very last day to a question that I've been dying to know since then. It even came to a point where I've checked the list of names of the exam takers of different universities that came to our school just to have an idea where he'd go but I never saw his name in any of it.

Now that I already have an idea on where he would like to study for college, I felt the need to try my luck for the very last time to see if I’ll have a chance of being a part of his world. Maybe, this is destiny's way of saying that I should not give up; that along the way, a happy ending story is waiting for us.

When I saw Cath coming at my direction, I welcomed her in the most hyped up way possible because I really can’t contain my happiness right now. Just the thought of spending my college days with the person I want to be with makes me feel ecstatic already.

“Chill out! Why are you so hyped up?” She curiously asked. "You were just whining a while ago and now, you're like that."

“I’ve heard that David and Ken will have their auditions at Philippine Academy later,” I energetically informed her what I've just heard. “Let’s give it a try!”

She looked so surprised with what I've said but it seemed like she didn’t mind about Ken but more of my impulsive decision and asked, “What about your application for University of the Philippines? Not everyone will have their chance of passing that exam, Kyle."

University of the Philippines is the university to be. A lot of Filipinos wanted to qualify for it but they never got the chance so I really understand where she's coming from right now. She feels like I'll be wasting an opportunity to be in that university but I cannot waste the chance of finally getting to know Ken. Not now. Not ever. Especially if this is the last shot that I can have to at least inform Ken that I exist.

“And not everyone will have their chance to be with Ken for the rest of their college lives, Cath. This is it! You, on the other hand, will have your chance to know David better. You like him, right? Now, take it or leave it,” I tried to convince her.

After all, it's also for us. She didn’t pass her entrance examination for University of the Philippines so if she won't take this leap with me, this would also be the last time that we'll be with each other in a class.

“Fine! But I am not ready for the audition. I might just make a scene and embarrass myself, Kyle,” she hesitantly told me.

To be honest, I’m not ready as well. But who knows? Destiny already informed me of Ken's plan. Maybe, destiny will also make a way for us to pass the audition no matter how unprepared we are.

“But now’s our only chance. If we don't do our auditions now, it's over," I tried convincing her more. "I won't waste this chance, Cath. If you really don't want to, I'd go on my own because I really want this so bad."

I felt like my speech took its effect on her because it was evident on her face that she's being convinced.

"Fine!"
