Chapter 3 An Insignificant Woman

Upon hearing this, Yanis turned around and replied, "Yes."

Neve stood beside Yanis, glancing at her and inquired, "When will you finalize the divorce?"

Yanis kept her eyes fixed on the TV and retorted, "Miss Bennett, are you in a rush?"

Neve smiled and responded, "Not really, but Zane seems to be, so I just wanted to know when you'll be ready to sign the papers."

Hearing this, Yanis paused the TV and turned to Neve, speaking with a soft yet distant tone, "Miss Bennett, what did you say? I didn't catch that. Could you repeat it?"

Neve met Yanis' eyes with a smile and replied, "Miss Thompson, I know you used to like Zane and didn't want to leave him. But the truth is, Zane doesn't feel the same way about you. You spent five years trying to win his heart, but unfortunately, you failed. Therefore, Miss Thompson, it's time to let go."

Yanis stood up, walked around the couch, and approached Neve. "Miss Bennett, you're jumping to conclusions. I did like Zane once, but not anymore. So, don't worry, Zane is all yours now."

With that, Yanis passed by Neve and headed upstairs.

It was only then that her expression changed.

She might be embarrassed and humble in front of Zane, but she refused to lose her dignity and self-esteem in front of Neve.

Upstairs, Yanis accidentally bumped into Zane, who had just changed his clothes.

Neither of them expected to run into each other.

"I spilled water on my clothes while drinking, so I'm going to change," Yanis said.

Zane's eyes briefly scanned her before he replied, "I'll wait for you downstairs."

Yanis nodded and entered the bedroom.

Downstairs, seeing Zane, Neve stood up and smiled. "Zane."

Zane responded, "We'll head to Lawrence's Mansion after Yanis is ready."

Neve nodded and then asked softly, "Zane, it seems Miss Thompson doesn't like me."

Zane glanced at Neve.

"I was going to say hello, but she ignored me and went upstairs," Neve said with a hint of grievance.

Zane furrowed his brows slightly, his voice neutral. "Don't worry about it. That's how she always is."

Neve took Zane's arm. "Zane, do you know her well?"

Caught off guard, Zane fell silent.

The truth was, he didn't really know Yanis at all.

He didn't care about her likes, dislikes, or anything else.

On the other hand, Yanis knew Zane better than he knew himself.

She was aware of his preferences, habits, and everything in between.

"Zane?" Neve's voice brought him back to the present.

Zane looked at Neve. "I never bothered to know her."

As Yanis descended the stairs, she caught bits of their conversation.

However, she didn't hear it clearly.

Having spent too much time obsessing over Zane in the past, Yanis had a habit of overthinking and interpreting everything he said.

So, she found herself wondering about Zane's words.

Neve continued, "I thought you might know her a little bit after all these years."

Zane, with his back turned to Yanis, was unaware of her presence.

"There's no need to waste time on a woman of no significance," Zane replied, unknowingly causing a pang of heartache in Yanis.

Nonetheless, Yanis was quick to regain her composure, as she always did.

Finally downstairs, Yanis stopped at the end of the staircase, observing Zane and Neve standing in the living room. "I'm ready. Let's go."

Zane frowned unconsciously upon hearing this.

He turned to look at Yanis, who stood at the stairway.

Yanis was dressed in a beige dress, and her high heels matched the color, accentuating her perfect figure.

Strangely, Zane found Yanis alluring and captivating.

As a result, his eyes narrowed slightly.

Noticing the change in Zane's expression, Neve grasped his arm a bit tighter. "Zane, do I really need to come along? I'm worried Grandma won't like it if she sees me."

This brought Zane's attention back to Neve. He looked at her and replied softly, "No, Grandma will like whoever I like."

With those words, Zane wrapped his arm around Neve's waist, and they made their way outside.

Yanis followed behind.

In the past, Yanis always took the front passenger seat whenever Zane drove.

However, with Neve present, Yanis knew her place and proceeded to open the back seat door.

"Yanis!"

Zane spoke up as Yanis was about to sit in the back seat.

Yanis looked over and asked, "What's the matter?"

"Take the front passenger seat."

Yanis glanced instinctively at Neve, who was standing beside Zane.

"Neve isn't used to sitting in the front," Zane explained.

Hearing this, Yanis nodded.

She didn't say anything, just walked to the front passenger seat, opened the door, and sat down.

Zane then helped Neve settle in the back seat before getting into the driver's seat.

As the car started moving, Yanis fastened her seat belt.

"There will be many people at the dinner, so behave yourself," Zane reminded.

Yanis replied softly, "I understand."

"Why didn't you prepare anything this time?" Zane turned to her and inquired.

Yanis met his gaze and replied, "I thought I no longer had to do that."

Zane furrowed his brows upon hearing this and replied in a cold tone, "True, you don't have to do that anymore."

Zane's indifferent tone made Yanis feel like she was just an employee to him, and that she was now useless.

In the past, Yanis might have let it slide, but not this time. She responded with a sneer, "Indeed, I don't need to do that anymore. But you did surprise me, Mr. Lawrence. I never expected you would bring both your wife and your mistress to a family dinner."
