Chapter 1
Branches hit her head and furry body as she runs through the dense forest, trying to escape her pursuers. The she-wolf stops just as a small clearing opens up. It is at that moment that she manages to catch her breath.
Her breathing was heavy, but she couldn't stop. She had already fled from her pack, and there was no turning back. She would never return, much less allow them to subdue her.
The wolf with thick brown fur makes a move to continue on her way when she feels a sharp pain in her stomach. She screams and ends up sitting on the dry leaves.
She writhes a little; the pain is intense.
"No, please. Now is not a good time," she growled to herself.
But the pain overcomes her, and she falls completely to the ground, quickly transforming into a human and leaving her body exposed. Immediately after her transformation, her belly becomes enormous.
"Come on, I need a little more time," she says to her belly as it trembles.
Sara turns her body around, ending up on all fours. She tries to stand up, but she can't. The pain has overtaken her body, indicating that it's time to give birth to her puppy.
"It had to be right now," she mutters angrily.
She lowers her head and pushes with all her might, digging her nails into the forest soil. Sara continues to push, spreading her legs to make way for her child.
But as she brings her child into the world, a pair of eyes watches her from the darkness.
Sara pushes until, with her last breath, she finally delivers the baby. Exhausted from all the physical exertion she endured to escape her pack and give birth, the woman falls to the ground.
She takes the baby in her arms and smiles when she realizes it is a girl. However, her smile fades when she notices that her daughter is stained. White spots cover almost her entire body.
"No! Why?" The girl wouldn't stop crying, driving the woman to despair because the crying would give away their location.
Sara looks up at the sky as she rocks her daughter and sees the huge, full moon. She blinked a couple of times and looked down at her baby.
"Daughter of the moon, your name shall be Leah."
