Chapter 5

I looked at Helios' face. His eyes seemed to tell me to lie. I could do that. I could just trick Carmilla. But every time I looked into his eyes, I felt I couldn't do it. I am a woman too, and I know it would hurt him, but he needs to know the truth.

"There is..." I said softly, but it was loud enough for them to hear.

I closed my eyes as Carmilla's crying grew louder. I knew my boss was cursing me, but I really couldn't lie.

When I opened my eyes, I saw Carmilla throw her engagement ring at Helios, and he caught it perfectly in his chest.

"There will be no wedding. Goodbye, Helios," Carmilla said and quickly left the room.

Helios just stared at the ring that Carmilla had thrown back to him. He looked serious and didn't move at all. I felt nervous about what he might do.

I know my boss. I know how ruthless he is. And I know he wouldn't forgive me for what happened today.

I jumped when Helios suddenly threw the ring and cursed loudly.

"GODDAMMIT!"

He quickly reached me and without warning, he tightly grabbed my neck. I held onto his hand around my neck when I felt the pain. I dug my nails into his hand, hoping he would let go of my neck, but it didn't happen.

"Remember this, bitch. I will make your life a living hell. I will make you suffer until you beg me to kill you. Be ready." He released my neck harshly before quickly getting dressed and leaving the room.

I started crying while holding my neck and coughing a lot. His grip was too tight on me, and it would surely leave a mark tomorrow.

I was doubly nervous when I went in the next day. My guess was right; there was a bruise on my neck, so I just tied a scarf around it to cover it up. I entered as if nothing happened, greeting the employees who greeted me back with a smile. But when I reached the CEO's floor, my anxiety skyrocketed. I knew he would follow through on his threat from yesterday, but I had no idea what he would do.

It seemed like I wouldn't have to wait long because as soon as I got to my desk, the intercom on my table rang.

"Zuri, get in here."

I wasted no time and immediately went into his office. The first thing I noticed was the huge stack of papers on his desk. He pointed at them.

"I want a soft copy of that," he said without looking at me.

"Boss?"

"Send them through my email. And don't go home until you finish it."

I swallowed hard at the papers in front of me. There must be about a thousand pages? And he wanted me to type them all and send them to his email?

When I didn't move, he finally looked at me. I could see the anger in his eyes.

"What are you waiting for, bitch?"

My lips trembled at what he called me. I felt heat in the corners of my eyes, so I quickly grabbed the papers and left his office.

I think I'd only typed about fifty pages when my stomach started growling. It was lunchtime already. I stood up to go to the cafeteria when I heard Helios' office door open.

"Where are you going?" he asked coldly. I swallowed hard.

"I'm going to eat, boss."

"Did you send the soft copies through my email?" He glanced at my desk to see the papers that weren't finished typing yet.

"I haven't finished yet, boss."

"Then you will never leave your desk until you finish typing those fucking papers!" he shouted angrily as he walked past me.

"Boss—" I was about to speak, but I was shocked when he slapped my cheek hard. I could taste blood from my lip, which seemed to have burst from the force of his slap.

"I'm paying you well, so don't complain. I told you that I will make your life a living hell, right? This is just the start, Zuri. This is only the beginning." After he said that, he got into the elevator.

Feeling weak, I sat on the floor and cried and cried. My cheek hurt, my lip hurt, my neck hurt, and my heart hurt.

The situation with Helios continued. He made my life so difficult that I could hardly eat or go home.

I started bringing biscuits and clothes to work because sometimes I couldn't even stand in my place until I finished everything he asked me to do.

My boss has changed too. He brings different women into his office almost every day. From where I sit, I can hear their moans inside, and it almost makes me sick.

Like that day. My boss brought another new woman to his office. I could clearly hear her voice, so I couldn't help but imagine the scenes in my mind.

"Ohh... Faster, baby. I'm coming!" I heard the woman say.

I covered my mouth and ran to the bathroom when I felt something churning in my stomach. I threw up everything, but it was mostly just water that came out of my mouth.

I rinsed my mouth and looked at myself in the mirror. I looked like a mess. My hair was a bird's nest. My skin was so pale, almost colorless. I had lost weight too.

I just washed my face to clean myself a bit. When I looked up, I was terrified to see Helios leaning against the bathroom door. He was looking at my reflection in the mirror, and I stared back at him. I turned to face him because I was scared of what he might do while I had my back turned.

"I thought I told you not to leave your table until you finished everything?"

He walked closer to me, and I didn't know how to back away. I felt the sink behind me, so I had nowhere to go. I gasped as he grabbed my cheek with one hand. My heart raced even more when he brought his face closer to mine.

"Want me to fuck you hard, bitch?" After he said that, he immediately kissed me. I kept my mouth shut and didn't open it, even when he almost bit my lip.

My lip hurt so much from his bites, and I could taste my own blood. After a few minutes, since I still didn't open my mouth, he slapped me hard.

"Open your fucking mouth, Zuri!" he said and kissed me again.
