Chapter 5: Dante's POV

My thoughts scattered as I stared at my mate sleeping on my bed and I couldn't help but remember how warm she felt on my chest as I brought her back to camp

She felt so light so fragile and her scent wouldn't leave his nose, that sweet strawberry scent

She's so beautiful, Kai's voice rang through my head filled with awe.

"Indeed she is" I murmured as I continued to stare at her calm sleeping face.

What do you think happened to her?" he asked angrily " who do you think hurt her?"

"We'll find out once she wakes up,” I replied calmly. “The healer said she'll be fine she's just in shock so be patient"

“Urgh.” Kai was as nervous and frustrated as I was but what could we do than wait for her to become conscious?

"How long is it going to take before she wakes up? She's been sleeping for hours" Kai growled, frustrated at the long wait. Well that makes both of us, I was already getting tired of waiting for her to wake up

And I kept fighting the urge to wake her up myself but that would frighten her

"Do you think she'll like to stay with us or does she have someone she would want to go back to…?"

Kai was right again, his words sending an uneasy feeling within me. Even if we wanted her, what would happen if she wakes up and decides to leave.? What if she already had a man in her life? What if when she opened her eyes, she wanted nothing to do with us?

All these questions echoed in my thoughts as I recalled the fear in her eyes when she saw how brutal Kai was in dealing with those rogues.

“But we were only trying to save her” Kai growled as if reading my thoughts.

I sighed frustrated. “I know”

As I sat there brooding, I continued to gaze at her beautiful face and fluttering eyelashes.

Wait.

Her eyelashes fluttered which meant…

She was about to wake up.

I sensed her movements underneath the blanket.

I tensed as I held my breath.

And when she finally opened her eyes, my breath got stuck in my throat and my mind went blank as she stared at nowhere in particular.

"...You're finally awake" I calmly said, trying to hide my eagerness and happiness.

Goosebumps prickled on my skin and the air immediately changed as she stared at me with those beautiful forest green eyes

She looked scared and confused as she quickly questioned who I was with her soft voice.

Kai couldn't help but dance in joy as she spoke to us,

Kira.

Her name was Kira.

My mate Kira.

I sensed the hesitation in her eyes, and the way her heart thudded the moment I asked her where she was from. Which only meant one thing, she was alone and without a man.

“She should stay with us, we can't let her leave us , we can't let her go" Kai's voice rang in my head with a strong possessiveness.

And I immediately stopped her from saying anything else, I didn't care about anything as long as she would agree to stay with me I would be fine, we would be fine.

Using the rogues to convince seemed like the best choice for me and it actually worked she agreed to stay and the way she called me 'Your majesty'

I couldn't help but chuckle, she sounded so cute, she looked so beautiful and innocent as I walked closer to her, taking in her beauty.

As I leaned closer to her I heard her heartbeat getting louder as her pupil dilated the moment I placed my hands closer to her.

Her scent flooded my senses to the core and all I wanted to do was take her, take all of her

And then from out of nowhere she stared deep into my eyes, stealing the breath from my lungs and making my heart skip a beat.

And then she rounded her lips to say the words 'ohhhhh'

For a minute I imagined her lips wrapped around my shaft.

“Kai what are you thinking?” I immediately chided him. "Calm yourself"

She stared at me for a while and I just wanted to leap at her and take her into my arms and give her all the pleasure in the world

I wanted her to make the same sound she just made but instead she should be moaning my name.

“Calm down, don't scare her, not now” I spoke to Kai as I quickly adjusted myself.

Grinding my teeth, I forced myself to turn away, striding out of the tent before I completely lost control.

Outside, Viktor stood waiting, he stared at me with questions in his eyes, questions I knew he was dying to ask and waiting for permission to.

"We'll have to camp for an extra night,” I said flatly. “I need her fit for travel" I spoke, ignoring his suspicious looks.

"An extra night? You need her to be fit for travel? Since when did the great Dante start caring about a woman who wasn't his mate?" He asked with a sarcastic tone

“Urgh if he wasn't our beta I would have broken every bone in his body right now.” Kai growled angrily as I stared blankly at Viktor to shut the fuck up.

His eyes suddenly widened as if realizing something.

"Wait,”

“Wait, don't tell me you sensed that she's your..."

"Oh shut up" Kai immediately said and I couldn't help but smirk.

"She is" I calmly said.

As soon as I said that, her scent, a sweet revitaling smell wafted along my nostrils, it smelled of strawberries with a hint of daisies.

But as soon as the scent penetrated my senses leaving me defenseless it disappeared.

I stilled. My senses sharpened.

I couldn't hear what Viktor was saying but I knew he was happily speaking to me.

Something wasn't right, why did her scent fill the air just like that and why did it disappear as if it was never there to begin with?

A sharp feeling of unease shot through me.

My gaze quickly darted towards the direction I had come from, my ears strained to hear.

Silence.

I couldn't hear her heartbeat, she wasn't in the camp.

I impatiently walked away from Viktor and headed in the direction of where I had left her because I couldn't understand what was going on.

Her scent faintly lingered in the air and I followed it like a bee drawn to a pretty flower. No—even worse than that. I followed the trail of her scent like a cobra following the song of a serpent's flute.

“She must have gone out for some fresh air” I said to myself in a bid to calm both me and Kai.

But I guess I spoke too soon.

All thoughts fled from my mind as I sighted her.

Aimlessly walking in a straight line, heading straight for the cliff like a puppet being controlled by its creator.

And she was wearing my favorite tunic

Wait.

Cliff.

She's walking straight for the CLIFF

Mate. Danger.

"Kira!!!”

Kai lunged forward, giving me the speed I needed.

Just before she could spin off, my hands reached for her, grabbing her to myself, my heart thundering against my chest.

“Are you alright?”
