Chapter 1

It was perfect. She was lying there in bed, begging me not to leave, to stay a few more hours; as if she hadn't had enough all night. That helps my ego, I must admit. I don't think there was a single Kama Sutra position we didn't try. I don't like to relinquish control. The truth is, Bianca was one of the few women who could satisfy my sexual appetite. She knows how to do her job very well, both with her hands and her mouth. Just thinking about it turns me on, but one night is enough. I satisfied my need, and it's time to return to life.

She's the kind of woman who helps you forget a bad day and focus solely on sex, sweat, and pleasure. She drives me crazy, I won't deny it. Blonde, blue eyes, a body like a goddess, refreshing smile, fun, and above all, she doesn't pressure me. She knows our relationship is based on casual encounters: she's bored, I'm bored, and in a phone call, within minutes, we'd be having fun, or we'd just have a bad day and we'd be in bed.

Everyone who knows us says we make an amazing couple, and why not? The daughter of my parents' best friends, a friend of my sister, has everything she wants. We're actually very similar, which is why our relationship can't go beyond sex, games, and fun. She knows this, which is why we get along so well.

“Come on, baby, don't go, stay a little longer, the sun isn't even up yet.” Pulling away the sheets that barely covered her body, what a temptation, she smiles at me and winks. “Come on, you know you want to get back in bed, a morning romp would do you good.”

“You'd like it.” We laughed. “You're a temptation Bianca, but that's enough and I have to go.”

“Come on, Adrian, it's not all work and business, you should take a day off sometime and have some fun and I can help you.”

“You helped me a lot, I know it's not all work, you're in my bed, aren't you?”

She gives me an annoyed look, clearly displeased by the comment, then gets out of bed and starts dressing, but if there's one thing I'm known for, it's being honest.

“Don't get upset Bianca, we've always been like this, you call me or I call you, we see each other, we sleep together, we have a good time and then each of us goes back to our own lives, to our own things, you know that.”

“I know, but... I don't know, I'm just saying we could have more. We have fun together, we share the same tastes in everything, and our families adore each other, so I thought why not make it real for everyone and stop seeing each other like this?”

"Look, Bianca, are you talking to me about having a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship, flowers, romantic dates, holding hands, fidelity, and all that nonsense? Because you know very well that I'm not that kind of man. I like women too much to tie myself down to just one. I don't like commitments, and as for our families, just because they're friends and have businesses together doesn't mean that you and I are perfect together. So get those ideas out of your head. We're doing fine as we are."

“I'm not saying we won't have a good time, or that we won't play at being a couple and hold hands in public, or anything like that, it's just that I like you and you like me, so I figured we could try it and see how it goes, we don't have to put a name to what we have, I'm just giving you an idea.”

He stares at me as he tells me what he's thinking, and just imagining a life of constraints, problems, whims, goodbyes, fun, beautiful women, having to start giving explanations, attending family commitments, and business... Well, they always say that business shouldn't be mixed with pleasure, much less with family. The mere thought makes me nauseous. What kind of person could possibly think that I, Adrian Falkenberg, could be all that, for God's sake?

“Bianca, let's make something clear, because it seems you've forgotten the conditions of this agreement. You sought me out, remember?”

“Yes, Adrian, but...”

"But I wasn't clear about anything. I told you that if we did this, I didn't want any commitments, that you shouldn't think we'd be boyfriend and girlfriend or that we'd have any right to exclusivity, much less think about anything serious. That it would only be fun, sex, and nothing more, that our friends and family shouldn't know so they wouldn't ruin it and think things that aren't true. You agreed, you accepted every single condition, and I accepted yours. Now you come out with this?"

Adrian, that was four years ago. Things change, and I just figured maybe it was time to stop playing games and make this something more. After all, you know I'm always there when you need me, whether it's to talk or for sex. I've always supported you, been with you through thick and thin, we're friends, and we understand each other perfectly in bed. I know we'd get along well as a couple, so why can't we give it a try?

“You said it yourself, as friends, Bianca; friends who have sex when they want, don't talk as if I'm the one who always pursues you and you're the submissive one who's just there; because you've also pursued me and you could say more than is proper for a lady.” She opens her eyes, pretending to be indignant at the comment.

“And don't look at me, so you know it's true, I've been there for you too, but it doesn't mean I want anything serious, you know I've been with many women all this time and I know you've been with others; so I don't understand why you're changing your mind now, so forget it.”

I grab my vest and my keys and head for the door, and I only hear her final words.

“Could you just think about it?”

“Why? I'm not going to change my mind. I know what I want, and it's definitely not a serious relationship. Why do you want me to give you that? Why?”

“Because I love you!”

She steps closer to me, and as I watch her, I think,"Does she love me?"Those words echo in my head. Is she crazy? I wasn't born to be loved by a woman. I'm not good at loving anyone; I only cause harm. I'm only good at sex, women, business, and destroying my enemies. But love? I've never loved anyone except my mother, father, and sister. But a woman who isn't family? No, of course not.

“Listen, Adrian, I know the word love scares you, I know that for some reason you've never wanted to talk about love, that you think it's silly to believe that a man and a woman can feel something so strong that they would die if something happened to the other, but it does exist, there are your parents, they love and adore each other like few others, your sister and Leonardo, they live for each other, or don't you believe it?”

Look, I know you and I can have something beautiful. I know you have feelings for me; if that weren't the case, we wouldn't have been together for four years. You wouldn't be coming to me to soothe your demons or vent your frustrations and desires. Someday you'll want children, a woman who loves you, who's there for you, who's your world and you hers. You're not a child anymore; you can't keep living like one. You need to start thinking about a family, and I offer you that and more.

Bianca just stares at me, waiting for an answer, and I don't know what to say. For the first time, she's making me think about the future. I could have a family, a woman who truly sees me for who I am, not for my last name or my bank account. A woman who's only mine and no one else's, a good, selfless, sweet woman to soothe my demons, a woman... But what on earth am I thinking? That's not going to happen. There's no such woman. They're all the same: self-serving, treacherous, liars.

I take her hands off my chest and when I'm about to speak, she cuts me off and says:

“Don't say anything, just think about it.”

I leave that room immediately.

When I arrived at the office, my best friend and brother-in-law, Leonardo, was there.

We've known each other since I was 15. He had just arrived from abroad and didn't know anyone. He was the weird kid at school because he was so quiet and reserved. He reminded me of myself, except that I was the popular kid at school. One day I got into a fight on the school campus with one of my classmates who I thought was against him, that for some reason he always overshadowed him and wanted to take everything from him; at that time I didn't understand why he said that.

Now I know why he came up to me that day and hit me; that's how we started fighting. We were about to graduate, and fighting wasn't well-received. If someone fought, they were expelled, and that was a luxury I couldn't afford. But there we were, hitting each other like the world depended on it, and I was just defending myself from his attack until, in the background, we heard the principal's voice shouting. Everyone ran away like cowards. As I was about to run, the principal grabbed my arm, saying:

"Well, well, look who it is! This time he won't be able to slip away, or graduate, it seems."Just as I was about to speak, I heard beside me:

“He didn't start it, he was just talking to a girl, this other guy came along and started hitting him without warning or anything, I intervened and started hitting the other guy; he didn't do anything, he was preventing us from fighting until you screamed and everyone ran away.”

“That day he saved my skin, I ended up with a report for being the new kid and not knowing the rules, from that moment on he had my respect, but it wasn't until the night before my graduation that he became my best friend and confidant.”

“Aha, the man arrived, I was going to start worrying; I was going to send out a statement on all social media:"rich businessman kidnapped by a beautiful, blonde, brainless woman at night, his whereabouts are still unknown.”

His peculiar sarcasm at least brought a slight smile to my face.

“Man, look at that face, did you have such a bad time last night?”

“Good morning, Leonardo, I didn't have a bad time last night, but I haven't had a good morning.”

“Did your blonde fail to relax you?”
