Chapter 3
Chapter 3
CASEY'S POV
Sitting on my bed, I felt restless, knowing what I had done. I bet Kelvin would have taken it out on my father last night since he was here.
I guess I need to see him, even though it would be difficult to have a normal conversation with him for now, but I still have to see him.
I grabbed my bag as I made my way out of the house. It was a good thing Dad wasn't in the sitting room anymore.
“Please, Kelvin, be polite with me,” I murmured under my breath as I stepped into Kelvin's mansion.
“Ma'am, are you here to see Mr. Kelvin?” one of his workers asked me, and I just gave a little nod.
“Okay, come with me,” she said, and I followed behind her.
“He is in there, but ma'am, you have to be careful because he was really furious last night when he came,” she advised.
“Okay, thank you for the tips. I will be,” I said, faking a smile.
“Alright, ma'am, if you need anything, don't hesitate to call me,” she said, and I just nodded before she went.
I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart before grabbing the door.
I went into the room and saw Kelvin standing there. He had a towel wrapped around his waist, and his body was wet, making me realize he had just finished having his bath.
“What are you doing here?” he spat, and immediately my heart started beating rapidly as I moved toward him.
“Kelvin, I'm really sorry about last night,” I apologized instead of responding to his questions.
“You haven't answered my question yet.” He paused. “I just asked what you are doing in my house?” He repeated himself, his voice rising.
“I know you don't want me here, but I'm so sorry for last night. I was drunk and ended up sleeping it off,” I explained.
“I never asked for your explanation, Casey. I want you to get the hell out of my house this minute before I lose it,” he retorted.
His eyes darkened, and my palms became sweaty immediately, but I managed to move closer to him. “Kelvin, please listen to me. I didn't mean it, please,” I pleaded, this time holding his hand.
He swatted my hands away in a rush, making me lose my balance and fall on the floor. He didn't pay any attention to help me up.
“Kelvin, I didn't mean to get drunk. Laura insisted that I have some drinks; I just couldn't say no to her,” I explained, hoping he would show some mercy on me.
“Aren't you an adult who knows how much you can take?” he barked.
“Yes, but I was just having fun and didn't think of stopping,” I said.
“Oh really?” he asked, his face contorted in a frown.
“Yes,” I managed to say.
“Well, that shows how irresponsible you are, and I don't think I want to proceed with this marriage thing,” he said, and immediately my eyes filled with tears.
“Please, Kelvin, our wedding is just in a few days. You can't cancel the wedding. I'm sorry,” I pleaded, tears pouring down my cheeks now.
“You should have thought about that before you showed your irresponsible attitude,” he said.
I felt offended by his words, but I dared not respond to him. We needed him, and I couldn't mess up this opportunity for my father; I bet he would never forgive me if that happened.
“Please, I'm truly sorry, and I promise from now on, I will never go out to any club,” I pleaded, with my hands placed together.
I was on both knees now, hoping it would touch his heart and make him reconsider this.
“You are beautiful; there is no doubt, but I can't deal with you,” he stated, his face still held in a frown.
He was just too hot-tempered, and I didn't even know how our lives together would be. But I just hope I will be able to endure him for the rest of my life.
“I …” he was saying when his cell phone started ringing, and he quickly stopped.
“Hello, uncle,” I heard him speak into the phone while I remained calm, watching him.
I didn't hear anything else besides Kelvin saying he was coming right away.
“Kelvin, don't tell me you are leaving; we aren't done talking yet,” I spoke up after he dropped his phone.
“I have to go; my uncle wants me in his office right now,” he said, getting dressed.
I gasped, seeing how he had not protested; instead, he was in a hurry to go see his uncle.
Kelvin was rude, arrogant, and he was known for always doing only what he wants and not allowing anyone to boss him around, but here he was submitting to someone just over the phone.
I never knew he could be this humble to anyone, but this act of his showed me a different side of him.
“Kelvin, you never obey anyone; what is so different about this uncle of yours?” I asked him, unable to keep it in.
“I don't owe you any explanation, Casey, so just get out so I can get ready and go see him,” he barked, while I just remained standing there.
He must really respect that uncle of his, and I bet he needed the uncle's help to change his mind about this marriage between us.
“Can I come with you?” I requested, standing on my feet now.
“What would you be doing if you came with me?” he asked me.
“Nothing, but I could help you with anything you want as a way of making it up to you,” I told him.
He stared at me for a while. I swallowed hard, hoping that he would let me tag along.
I really needed to meet his uncle, and I was going to do all it takes to meet him.
“The answer is no; I don't want you there with me,” he said, but I wouldn't accept that.
“Please, I really want to make it up to you,” I said.
“Hmm,” he exhaled.
“Are you sure you really want to make it up to me, or do you secretly have another agenda?” he asked me, his gaze fixed on my face.
“No, I don't have any agenda. Please stop thinking low of me,” I spoke up; my voice was low but firm.
“Okay then, I could even use someone to help me take my bags, so yes, you are free to tag along,” he said.
He gave me his bag, which contained some files, while he led me out of his room.
Within a few minutes, we had arrived at his uncle's firm. We stopped at the door while he knocked.
“Kelvin, is that you?” I heard a deep voice speak from inside.
The deep voice sounded familiar, and I couldn't help but wonder if I had met him before.
“Yes, can I come in?” Kelvin asked, and he was given permission to enter.
As we stepped into the office, I tried to calm my racing heart, ready to speak to Kelvin's uncle about our marriage.
“Uncle, this is my fiancée, Casey,” Kelvin introduced, while I looked up to take his hands, which were stretched towards me.
I froze upon seeing his face as it curved into an evil smirk.
