Chapter 3: It keeps getting worse

AT LIAM'S HOUSE~{8pm}

“You lied to me.” Those were the first words that left her lips as soon as her father stepped into the house looking so tired and distressed.

Liam raised a confuse brow at her. “What are you talking about?” He took off his shoes and replaced it with slippers.

“How could you lie to me? How could you try to fool me? Is this your way of pushing me out of your life? Am I a burden to you? Am I_”

“Whoa, calm down Karma.” Liam cuts her off. “Where are all these talks coming from? How did I fool you? What are you saying, sweetheart?” He dropped his briefcase on the couch and focus his attention on his daughter.

“It doesn't exist.”

“What?”

“DarkLight Academy or whatever shit it's called does not exist!” She yelled in annoyance.

Liam sighed. “Of course it wouldn't.”

“What do you even mean by that? Do you know what I went through today searching for that stupid school?”

“It's a school of magic, Karma. How is that going to exist in the human world? Didn't you read the letters? You can't even take a public transport, you have to press the amulet for a teleporter to appear and take you there.” He explained, only confusing her more.

“Wait,” She let out few deep breaths, easing herself. “It doesn't exist in the human world?”

“Karma_”

She backed away from him. “You were willing to send me off to a school outside of the human world,,,if it truly does exist which it doesn't.”

“I'm doing this for your own good, dear. Trust me you will realize this sooner or later. You are not safe here with humans. If you don't learn to control your magic, you might ending up hurting other people.”

“Dad!” She called angrily. “I am not dangerous, okay? I don't have any stupid magic. I am human. Why are you saying all of this mean things to me? Why are you trying to push me away? How do you expect me to cope? First, you made us moved down here to Las Vegas because of your fvcking job. You didn't even think about me or what I lose while leaving Florida. Our home. We just moved here and what, started a new life and now you are telling me to start this school that doesn't exist in any part of the world?” She cried.

Liam seemed to be taken back by his daughter's words. It breaks his heart to see her cry.

She never complained about leaving their other home at Florida.

Okay, she might have been sad at some point but she never really complained to him about it.

Besides she already have a friend here which she so much care about.

He was only trying to help her here. She being in the human world will cause harm and bring havoc not only to the human world but also to her.

She needs to find out her true self and learn to control her powers.

It was a promise he had made to her mother,,,Karma have a lot to do. She has a destiny to fulfil. She doesn't know this yet but with time she will and that's the only reason why he was doing all of this.

Does she even know the purpose of her name....Karma?

Like seriously no parent will be happy to watch their child leave them,,,he can't cope without her by his side but this was the huge sacrifice he have to make. It was the only way Karma's destiny can be fulfilled.

If only he could tell her all this and give her a vivid explanation but he can't. It was something she have to discover on her own.

“Sweetheart_” He began but she cuts him off.

“I'm not going, dad.” She said in finality, grabbing a coat from the rack and walked out of the house, ignoring her father who kept calling her back.

*****

TIANA: WHERE ARE YOU NOW?:-)

Karma read the text, rolling her eyes as she sat down on a roadside bench.

KARMA: HOW DID YOU KNOW I'M NOT HOME?:-)

TIANA: YOUR DAD ASKED ME TO CHECK UP ON YOU. HE SAID YOU ARE NOT PICKING UP HIS CALLS, WHY?:-)

Another text from Tiana came up after that.

TIANA: DOES THIS HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THAT SCHOOL?:-)

Karma let out a deep breath, not knowing the answer to give to her friend.

Of course it have everything to do with that school?

Ever since that letter came into their mailbox, things have changed.

Actually,,,it was ever since she clicked eighteen but still!

She should be living her life without thinking about changing school, or dealing with shit that talks about magic.

If the school does exist at least then it would have been much better, because she will be dealing with things that truly exist and not nonexistence bullshit!

Magic is false. Capital letter FALSE!

It's a children program and isn't real. Obviously.

Her dad should've known better than to pull up this kind of joke on her.

Karma's phone started ringing, disrupting her thought.

She stared down at it and saw Tiana's picture display on her screen.

She didn't even give her friend a reasonable answer to why she was looking up a school that didn't exist.

What will Tiana even think?

Yes the girl loves magic and believes in them,,,black widow was her favorite and so were witches,,,but will she really believe Karma's story?

How can someone you've been friends with for two years suddenly come out and say they have magical powers,,, doesn't that sound stupid?

Just as Karma's phone stopped ringing, another text message popped up on her screen from furious Tiana.

TIANA: ARE YOU IGNORING MY CALLS NOW? WHAT'S YOUR FVCKING PROBLEM, KARMA! YOU BETTER GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER AND START TALKING. YOU KNOW HOW SCARY I CAN BE WHEN PISSED:-)

Of course Karma knows how scary Tiana can be when she gets mad so that's why she decided to do what's best at this point. She turned off her phone, shutting the world and the people that cares about her out.

She needed a quiet moment to process what's going on with her.

Karma stared into space, having absolutely nothing in mind.

Her head were moving in circles.

Her thoughts were blank, though she has lot of things to think of but none was coming.

It felt like she was already in another whole new world without moving her feet, using a public transport, an airplane or magical teleporters.

It's scary how one have lot of things to think about and have a blank thought at the same time _does that even make any sense?_

*You are not safe here with humans. If you don't learn to control your magic, you might ending up hurting other people.* Her father's words played in her head as memories of what happened this morning with that five years old boy filled her head.

No she didn't hurt the boy in any way. But could she have been able to save the little boy? What if_

“Hi beautiful.” The voice of a guy brought her out of her trance.

She looked over at him with a deep frown on her face. “Weren't you taught in school or at home never to interrupt a lady's thought?”

He laughed, showing off his dimples. “I was. But I was also taught to appreciate the beauty of a lady when I see one.”

“I never asked you to appreciate me or whatsoever.”

“You don't have to beautiful. I'm Michael, by the way.” He introduced, extending his hand to her.

Karma waved him off, “Get lost, Michael.”

“I...” Michael gulped hard. He got up to his feet and walked away without saying any more words to her.

Wow that was easy. She thought to herself as she watched him leave.

****

“Karma, where have you been? Do you know how worried I was?” Liam asked worriedly.

Karma slammed the front door shut and stepped closer to him. “I'm fine dad.”

“Where have you been?” He asked again.

She shrugged. “Around.”

“You are a lady for pete sake! You can't be out by this time of the night.” He scolded.

“Dad, it's just half past ten. Stop worrying. Besides you are willing to send me off to this nonexistent school. You should be more worry about that and not this.” She scoffed.

“Listen child_”

“I'm going to bed.” She yawned, cutting him off. “Goodnight.” She pecked his cheek and walked away.

“Oh Karma.” Liam said in a low voice, shaking his head at his daughter's retreating form _What's left for him to do to persuade her to go to the academy?_

****

¶*What are you doing? Run. Keep running. Don't stop.*

*No. I can't leave you here.* Karma cried, staring down at the helpless human.*

*Please child. Go. They are getting closer. They will kill you if you are caught. You can't let them have their way. You have to fulfil your destiny. Please go. I will distract them.*

Karma stood up to her feet and started running aimlessly towards a very dark direction.

She was sweating profusely.

She ran as fast as her legs could carry her, feeling guilty about the human she left behind.

Thirty minutes of running, she stopped. She was breathing heavily as she sunk into the ground, wondering where to go from here.

In the middle of her ponder she sighted a deserted building at the far end of the woods. It was engulfed in complete darkness, well thanks to the moonlight which reflected on the building that made her realized it was actually a building.

She couldn't get a better view of the place from the far distance.

Could that be the way out for her?

Does her chances of leaving this forest lies in there?

Were there humans over there who could save her from those people or at least give her a place to sleep for the night? She wonder.

Karma looked around once again before coming up to her feet.

There are two options here; One, she stand here and do nothing. Which by the way, the chances of getting caught were at 80%. Two, she check out the building and spend the night over there then continue her journey when daybreak.

She will go with the latter. It was the only option of survival.

Karma walked down the path that led to the dark building, hoping for the best from it.

Few minutes later she was standing in front of the creepy building. The place looks very old and ancient. There were low chances of people living in here. Trees looking like weapons surrounded the building. The windows are dark and filled with shadows. This place was definitely unsafe but Karma had no choice here.

She pushed the giant door open and stepped inside the darkness. She could only make out the sound of water leaking from the roof, probably.

The place was pitched black!

There's definitely no one staying in a place like this.

Karma didn't know the direction to go from here,,,she stood in front of the open door, trying to make out something...anything at all.

*No place to hide?* The voice sounded animalistic. A hand crawled up to her skin from behind, making her flinch as she sharply turned around, falling down on the hard floor in the process.

They were the same people...five in numbers....black hoodies....faces hidden behind monstrous mask...ha, that also explains the dripping water...

....She was trapped. Again....¶

*****

Karma peeled her eyes opened, she was breathing shakily. Her body were shaking. she was sweating. She quickly flickered on the lamp by her bedside.

A dream...again.

What up with this stupid weird dreams?

Who are those people?

Why do they keep tormenting her night?

Karma reached out for her phone and switched on the screen to see what time it is,,,it was 2am in the morning.

She let out a deep sigh, running her fingers over her wet her.

She got out of bed and walked inside the bathroom. She turned on the faucet and splashed some cold water on her face then stared at her reflection on the mirror.

“Get your head straight, Karma. These are just stupid mere dreams, okay? It's normal to have weird dreams like this but trust me, it definitely won't come to pass.” She told herself.

*****

She walked out of the bathroom and was about to crawl into her bed when she started a human shadow from her window. Again.

Karma's legs weakened in fear and she dropped on the floor with her mouth hanging open,,,the shadow left as soon as they noticed her. Deja vu struck her immediately,,,it was the same shadow of that night after she had that scary dream.

What's that shadow? It was surely a human shadow and not a tree like she had assumed.

Karma was still seated on the floor, wondering what's going on when she felt something on her palm.

She looks down only to find the letter and amulet on her palm. Yes the very letter she toss out in the trash bin yesterday on her way to school.

“JESUS CHRIST!!!” She screamed at the very top of her voice.

Into the dark forest, Michael can be found walking down a lonely path with no destination in mind.

He was looking so tattered and on barefooted. His eyeballs were complete black and were bleeding including his nose and ear. Michael was as white as a ghost. Life were drained out of him.

He was looking very tired but continued walking as he repeatedly mumbled some words....

“Get lost, Michael.”
