CHAPTER 2
Kristen pov
"Caden" I look at her bewildered.
"Yeah! My overly protective brother and Aiden’s twin" she mumbles.
"Huh... how come I never heard of him" I ask.
Since last 3 months I haven’t even heard Caden’s name in her household ... like he never existed.
"Well he isn’t really around. .. He takes care of dad's business" she explained.
A frown still itched to my face as I kept looking at her, it was really confusing.
"You are confused, aren't you?" She chuckled at my frowning.
"It’s ok if you don't wanna tell me I..." before I can continue she hushed me.
"Well me, Aiden and Caden grew up in this house till they turned 10. Suddenly one day dad was sending Caden away. I always bonded more with Caden than Aiden so being dad's favorite princess I asked him to send Aiden instead"
I looked at her in bewilderment.
"Come on don't judge me... I and Caden were really close and I didn’t want him to leave"
"It’s ok, please continue" I told her.
"Well that’s the only time in my life when dad didn’t listen to me. he said he couldn’t send Aiden only Caden could go and so Caden left"
"8 years later when he returned, he was no longer the brother I remembered. He still talked to me but he started to call dad Mr. Rivera ... something we could never understand and it was like he has turned into dad's clone all stoic and silent" she completed.
"That’s intense" was all I could reply with.
"Do you know Krisy, the rumors about my father being a mafia king as well as a business man" she asked her expression unreadable.
I nodded my head in yes unable to contemplate what to say.
"Well they aren't exactly rumors and now that dad has planned to retire its Caden’s now" she told me.
I was stunned ... this explained why everyone feared Amy so much and tried to keep a safe hand distance with her. Even the teachers would be carefully about speaking to her. Now all those pitiful gazes people gave me made sense.
I looked at Amy, her expression masked with fear of what I was going to do?
How was I going to react?
Was I going to call her names and run away?
Was I going to cower away from her?
Suddenly I realized what Amy had been going through all her life. Being mafia kings daughter came with its own consequences where people cower away from you.
First losing her dearest brother, then being treated like she was different from everyone else, it somehow made her feel that she didn't belong.
"Amy" I called softly before holding her hand.
"I don’t care who your dad or brother is. I am your best friend and I am going to stay by your side no matter what" I completed hugging her.
"Thanks you Krisy... thank you so much" she beamed.
"But Krisy" she called my name her voice completely serious.
"Yeah" I asked confused.
"Please don’t cross Caden’s path. He may have been my favorite brother but everything in his path gets ruined and I don’t wanna lose the only friend I have ever got" she smiled.
"Hey how come Aiden isn’t so" I couldn't help but ask.
"I don’t know. It’s just he wanted to become a model always and ended up being one... dad agreed or not isn’t something I know. I guess he agreed because he already got what he wanted. He turned my best cheerful brother into his cold clone" she sneered. This was the only time where I had heard Amy’s resentment towards her dad or she was always his little princess.
Somewhere I wanted to tell her everything that happened today but on the other side I didn’t want to create any drama between them.
Maybe it wasn’t as big deal as I was making of it.
"Let’s watch 'bad boys ' " I smiled enthusiastically.
After 3 hours of watching bad boys series it was 6 already, like always I had to be home and get ready to work.
Looking next to me on the bed I realized Amy was fast asleep.
Hey Amy,
Gotta go .. late for the job.
See ya tomorrow in the college
Bye
Love you
I wrote a note sticking to her bed stand as I made my way to exit. On the way back I didn’t cross anyone's path and that was something I was really grateful for. The mansion was full of servants. Some gave me a smile of recognition and some simply ignored my existence.
Just when I was about to step out a voice startled me.
"Hey Hun" it was Catherine.
"Hey cat" I smiled but that instantly dropped when I saw who was next to her.
The future king of mafia stood all in his glory looking at me again with some scary intensity.
Days like this I really wished I didn’t really tie my long brown hairs into a ponytail so I can use it as a curtain.
"Wanna stay for dinner" she smiled, she always asked even if she knew I couldn't.
"You know I'd love to but I can’t" I tried to ignore him and smiled back.
"Honey... anyways I wanted to introduce you to someone" she chuckled and I already wanted to run away.
"This is Caden, my son and Aiden’s twin" she spoke patting his shoulders as he gazed at me the same way.
"And Caden this is Kristen, Amira’s best friend" she introduced.
"Hey" I mumbled giving an embarrassed smile.
I felt more embarrassed when he didn't bother to reply and kept gazing at me.
Was I too poor?
Too ugly to be his princess best friend or stand anywhere in his mansion.
I mentally did a happy dance when my phone rang interrupting the awkward staring and silence.
It was Sam, my club manager.
"Hey Sammy" I answered.
"Hey krisy, I hope you remember you have to come early today" he asked.
"Of course, I will be there in 5" I answered before ending the call.
I turn to see Caden’s eyes narrowed at me.
"Cat... I really need to leave. I will see you soon" I asked her.
"Sure hun... bye" she replied before moving in again as Caden still stared at me clenching his jaw like he was going to attack me any moment.
Scared I quickly ran out.
