The room was dark except for moonlight streaming through the windows, casting everything in silver and shadow. I could see the shape of James in the bed, and as my eyes adjusted, I saw him sit up.

"Mia?" His voice was rough with sleep and something else. "What are you doing here?"

"You know exactly why I'm here," I whispered, closing and locking the door behind me.

He threw back the covers and stood, wearing only boxer briefs that did nothing to hide his immediate response to seeing me. "This is insane. Harper's right down the hall. If anyone wakes up—"

"Then we'll be quiet," I said, crossing to him. "But I didn't sneak out here in the middle of the night to talk about risks we already know about."

"Mia—" His hands came up to grip my arms, torn between pulling me closer and pushing me away. "If we get caught—if Harper finds out—it'll destroy her. Destroy everything."

"I know." The guilt was acid in my throat, but I pushed through it. "I know what we're risking. I know how terrible this is. But I can't stop, James. I've tried. I can't stay away from you."

"Fuck," he muttered, and pulled me against him, his mouth finding mine in a needy desperate kiss.
