Chapter 4

“No… no, not my baby!” I cried, feeling the warmth of the fake blood trickling down my legs. This was it—the final act to win Chris back.

“I... I didn’t do anything!” Abigail stammered, her eyes darting between Chris and me, shock plastered across her face. She looked too stunned to form a coherent thought.

“Yes, you did! I saw Luna push her down!” Another maid spoke up, and I let the tears flow freely, clutching my stomach as if in pain.

“Oh… what did I do to deserve this?” I choked out, casting a pitiful look at Chris, who was staring daggers at Abigail.

“What did you do to deserve this?” His words were a low, dangerous growl, each one laced with fury. “Enough!” he shouted, his voice echoing through the room. His fists clenched, and I could almost feel the rage radiating from him.

“You’re not fit to be Luna—not someone as vile and troublesome as you!” he spat in disgust. “After everything I did for you, accepted you… But maybe you really are a witch. Maybe that’s why you can’t even bear a child!”

“Chris… they’re lying! I swear, I didn’t push her!” Abigail cried, her voice desperate, her hands trembling. But Chris had already made up his mind, and his harsh words shattered what was left of her spirit.

“Yes, you did! You’re nothing but a freaking psychopath! You crave attention even when you can’t handle it!” He yelled. Chris held my hands tightly, his eyes searching mine for something—reassurance, perhaps.

As fresh tears spilled down my cheeks, I turned to Abigail, my heart racing. “Reject this monster! All she wants is to cause trouble!”

“What?” I gasped, disbelief etched across my face. “No, you can’t... no!! Chris, I’m your wife!” My voice rose to a desperate shriek as the realization began to sink in.

But Chris’s expression hardened, his jaw tightening. “Wife? You think that title gives you a pass to manipulate and hurt others?” He replied, his voice cold and unyielding. “You’ve brought nothing but chaos into this pack, Abigail.”

“No! You can’t do this to me!” She begged, her eyes wide with fear. “I love you, Chris! I’ve always loved you!”

“You don’t even know the meaning of love,” Chris snapped. “You’ve twisted it into something ugly.” He turned to the gathered crowd, and his voice boomed with authority. “I, Alpha Chris, reject Abigail as my mate. She is a danger to our pack and must be dealt with. Now you'd watch me take the Luna title from you, but you will forever remain my wife.”

Abigail's Pov.

“I'm not accepting your rejection. I reject your rejection!” I snapped, but in a few seconds, Chris was in front of me with his hands around my neck. About to snap the life out of me. I didn't deserve it.

"What's going on here?" I heard a voice, David's voice.

Everyone turned to the door, and gosh, so did I; I saw my best friend standing there. I couldn't believe he'd actually come for me.

"I am David of the black shade pack. My alpha sent me to represent him in the meeting." What meeting was he talking about?

"Oh, I didn't know you'd come in so early." Chris said.

I couldn't believe he told me nothing about the meeting; what was it about?

"Your Luna is supposed to welcome me. I can't keep standing at the door now. Right?" Immediately David said that Amanda rushed out.

I wasn't yet out of Chris's life, and she was already to take my place.

"Are you kidding me? Is this your way of insulting me? She's not Luna!" David said, and I could see the shame in Amanda's eyes.

If only I had had a phone with me, I sure would have gotten a phone.

"Greetings, I, Abigail of this pack, welcome you, David of the Black Shade pack." I said, and he nodded.

"Very well." Without another word, Chris ran to him, taking him inside. "Isn't your alpha coming?" I faintly heard Chris ask.

I turned around and walked back to the guest room—my room. After I pushed the door open, I saw David inside.

Jeez, Chris even gave out the room I've been staying in out of the other rooms... But it was a blessing; else how was I going to talk to my best friend?

"Hey bestie." He said, and I smiled. "Long time, no see."

"And talk," I added, "I missed you." I pouted and hugged him.

"I did too... But I'm here now. I found out about the meeting after your dad called and decided to come instead of my mate." He said.

"How is she? And what's the meeting about?" I asked.

"My mate is fine, but it's funny you don't know about the meeting. Your mate wants my alpha to sponsor, or rather cover up, his expenses. Guess he's going bankrupt soon." My jaw dropped at this.

"I don't have much time; this meeting is today, so we have to plan on how to get you out of here as soon as possible." David muttered, and I nodded.

"I think only your alpha can save me, only him."

"My alpha doesn't have time for women... He's been chasing after his mate for years. He refused to accept a chosen mate; he just can't move on from her, so I wouldn't set my hopes on him."

"Why did she reject him?" I asked.

"No, she doesn't even know. From what I heard, she's mated to someone else, so it's possible she can't feel the mate bond with him. If only I knew her, I'd give her a piece of my mind." We were still talking when a knock came in, and I had to run off from the window.

"Hey!" I saw Asher.

"Hey!" I gave an awkward smile.

"You don't have to tell me anything." He said, Gosh, he was so understanding. I really wish Asher was my mate.

"I didn't want to tell you now, but Asher, I want you to go to the meeting with me. No one knows; this could be my last day here." I said.

"Asher, you know how important you are to me," I said, and he looked surprised, but he nodded. "I have suffered enough and want to leave. I don't have enough time to explain, but I would love it if you came with me." I didn't know what was happening, but I just couldn't stop.

"I know it might be hard, but I want us to start a new life together." I think I was going too fast, but I stepped towards the confused Asher and captured his lips. It was for a short time, but it felt so different, like there was a special bond.

I felt so embarrassed and ran off.

I kept on thinking about the kiss, and for some reason Asher's face kept appearing in my head. I guess I never really thought about him, but was he going to leave his pack for me?

In no time it was already evening, the time for the meeting.

I picked a red dress, got ready, and sat back. I decided to go out a little late, plus I didn't know if Asher would come, and if he didn't, I wouldn't be able to stand the embarrassment.

A few minutes later there was a knock on the door, and Asher came in.

"Luna, I really don't know what the um the kiss means to you, but it means a lot to me... If your offer from earlier still stands, I'd accept it." He said, and I smiled. I rushed over and hugged him. I never felt so connected to him like I did at that moment. I really wanted him to be with him.

I felt nauseous and rushed to the bathroom after I was done we left for the meeting. I didn't know why, but I've been feeling really sick... Maybe I was just sick of the pack.

As soon as Asher and I walked into the hall, all the people from the black shade pack bowed, and I knew they weren't bowing to me, so?

"Everyone bow to Alpha Asher!" My eyes widen at the call of Asher's name. I turned around to see if maybe there was some other Asher, but I found nobody; he deceived me!

"Should I bow too?" I asked with a cracked voice.

"No, no, gosh, Luna." He tried to touch me, but I shifted. I looked at him, and I could see the fear in his eyes; he was scared of me? Or did he know for a fact that he just ended whatever was about to start between us? "I... I really... I'm sorry."

I couldn't listen to him and just ran up the stairs.
