Chapter 2: I Will Never Love Seraphina

(Seraphina's POV)

When I heard what he said, my heart leaped into my throat. I hurriedly asked, “Dad, calm down first. Tell me what happened?”

My father took a moment to steady himself before speaking again. “Your brother… he’s a complete fool. He borrowed money from multiple packs because of some ridiculous advice from his subordinates. He invested it all in a land development project near the border, but the project failed. It’s caused territorial disputes… and now people are hunting him down.”

“Eighty million dollars… If he can’t pay it back, your brother will go to prison, and our pack will lose our land… cough, cough…”

He was so emotional that he broke into a violent coughing fit.

I realized just how serious the situation was, but it all happened so suddenly that I panicked. My mind went blank. I didn’t know what to say or what to do.

“How… how did it come to this…” I muttered, my legs trembling. “Dad, what should we do now?”

My father hesitated for a moment before cautiously suggesting, “Seraphina… there is a way…”

I froze, instinctively asking, “What is it?”

“If Lucien helps, all of this can be resolved.”

Of course. Why hadn’t I thought of Lucien?

He’s the alpha of the Silvermoon Pack. He’s the Lycan King. If he intervened, my brother and the Moonlace Pack would be saved.

My father’s voice came again, softer this time. “Seraphina, you’re Lucien’s Luna. If you ask him for help, he won’t just stand by and do nothing. Right now, only you and Lucien can save us.”

For as long as I could remember, my father had always been a proud yet loving figure. I had never heard him speak to me in such a humble and pleading tone.

In that moment, I truly realized how much he had aged.

But after what had just happened, I couldn’t help but think of Lucien’s cold and unfeeling demeanor. My heart was heavy with bitterness, and tears began to fall uncontrollably.

Lucien… would he even help me?

He was with another woman now. He probably didn’t even think of me anymore.

“Seraphina, what’s wrong?” my father asked, sounding worried. “Is something happening on your end?”

I wasn’t sure if my father could sense my pain, but I quickly wiped away my tears and took a deep breath. I tried to keep my voice as calm as possible. “No… Dad, I’m just worried about my brother.”

My father seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. “That’s good. As long as you and Lucien are okay, then your brother and the Moonlace Pack will be fine too.”

I forced a smile. “Don’t worry, Dad. I’ll go to Lucien for help. Everything will be okay.”

“Seraphina, you’re the Moonlace Pack’s only hope.”

I was still sitting on the floor when my father’s words sank in, pressing down on me with a weight I had never felt before.

I couldn’t help but think back to that moment three years ago.

Flashback

When my father discovered that Lucien and I were destined mates, he didn’t hesitate to bring me to the Silvermoon Pack.

At the time, the Silvermoon Pack was led by Lucien’s father, the old Lycan King. When he saw me, he smiled with satisfaction. “I believe you’ll make a wonderful Luna. Knowing Lucien has a mate like you puts my mind at ease.”

Hearing his words, I felt shy and nervous. But when I thought about marrying Lucien and becoming his Luna, I couldn’t help but feel a glimmer of anticipation.

Instinctively, I looked over at Lucien.

He stood beside the old Lycan King, but his gaze was cold and distant as he looked at me. “I don’t agree.”

His words plunged the room into silence.

The old Lycan King frowned in displeasure and scolded him harshly. “Nonsense! What are you saying? Is there an alpha in this world without a mate? Seraphina is an alpha herself. Your union will benefit all the packs.”

“But to me, it’s not a benefit,” Lucien replied, his tone as icy as ever. “I despise the bond between mates. I have my own individuality, and I refuse to be controlled by any external force.”

“This means I will never love Seraphina.”
