Chapter 6

Thalia’s POV

Daciana and Mia ran after me the very minute I left them.

Daciana patted my back softly until I was done throwing up, then they both help me back to the bed.

“You feel weak again? Is your stomach hurting? Do I call for the nurse? What is going on with you?” Daciana asked, almost panicking.

“No No please, I’m alright. I just think it’s the soup that triggered the vomiting again.” I responded.

“I’m so sorry, Thalia. I didn’t add anything extra, it’s the usual soup I make.” Mia said, feeling sorry as she tried to explain herself.

“I know. It’s not your fault. It’s just my body system that’s acting up.”

Daciana held me as we both walked in and she helped me lay down.

“But you will need to eat something, Thalia. How is that possible if you keep throwing up everything that goes into your system? You cannot go all day without eating. You won’t recover quickly and that would be bad. I don’t like to see you looking like this.” Daciana said to me.

“I’ll b fine.” I whispered.

“I think when the herbs comes and she takes that, I’ll make it easier for her to eat something.” Mia said to Daciana.

“Oh yes, that’s true.” Daciana responded. “Please, lay down and rest, okay?”

I nodded in response, laid down properly and shut my eyes. I remembered Elara’s words very clearly, “You’re pregnant.” I could hear my heart beat so fast.

“How was I going to navigate through this? How was I going to raise a child all by myself in this land where I am a stranger?” The thought of having a baby frightened me.

But then, I imagined what the child was going to look like, just to feel better.

“I hope this baby looks like me, not Alpha Valen because that will just remind me of how broken he left me. And if she’s a girl, I’ll name her after my mother.” I could feel a bit of relief as I thought about this.

My mind drifted away from the confines of the den to memories of a time long ago, a time when my world was filled with warmth and love. I thought about my mother, the gentle soul who had brought me into this world and had shown me what it meant to love and be loved.

My mother, with her flowing auburn hair that glowed like a flame in the sunlight, and her eyes, a shade of deep brown that sparkled with kindness. She had a smile that could light up the darkest of days, a smile that I had dearly missed since the day she left this world.

I wished to see those eyes and smiles as I grew but they were gone, washed into the past but her memories I hold dear to my heart.

I recalled the stories she used to tell me as a child, tales of bravery and kindness. She had been my anchor, my source of strength, especially after my father’s untimely death. He had been a brave warrior, a defender of our pack, but fate had snatched him away, leaving my mother and me alone.

We lived peacefully for a while, until the day my wicked step-father, Thorne Fenrir, a sinister wolf with a heart black as coal, forcefully claimed my mother as his mate. No one dared to defy him, and my mother, fearing for our lives, succumbed to his cruelty. I witnessed the light in her eyes dimming day by day as she endured Thorne’s torment. She watched me suffer in his hands but there was nothing she could do about it.

My mother’s passing was a bitter blow, but she has Selena before she passed. I hope she would be my new source of joy but no, Thorne has poisoned her heart.

Finally, I could find solace in the idea of creating a new life, a life that would be an extension of the love my mother had given me. It was a small glimmer of hope in the vast darkness that had consumed my world.

Now, as I felt the weight of the life growing within me, I couldn’t help but imagine the child’s laughter, the tiny fingers grasping mine. I really hoped for a girl, but it was a boy, I would not love him any less.

Although I was afraid and unsure, but I decided to look at the brighter side of having a baby. I was determined to keep this a secret for as long as I could just to ensure my baby and I are safe.

A soft smile played on my lips as I embraced the idea that, despite the challenges I faced, I was not truly alone. This unborn child was a source of hope, a reason to carry on, to fight against the shadows of my past. I whispered to myself as I held my stomach, “You’ll be my strength, my little one. We’ll face this world together.”

Just as I was about to doze off, I heard Tyrus’ voice. Tyrus’ positive change still surprised me.

“It took a while, but I was finally able to get the herbs.” He said as he entered.

“Oh Tyrus, Thank you so much.” Daciana said as she collected the herbs from him.

“May I go and prepare it?” Mia asked.

“Don’ worry Mia, I’ll do it myself alright.” Daciana said to her.

A tear drop fell from my eyes as I overheard their conversations. It’s been a while since anyone took care of me like this. I couldn’t help but be grateful to Tyrus. I began to clear off the evil memories of him that I had held to heart.

“Everyone deserves a chance and Tyrus was really proving to me that he isn’t the Tyrus I knew some years ago.”

“How’s she?” He asked.

“She threw up again but she’s resting now.” Daciana replied.

“Threw up again?” Tyrus was alarmed.

“She said it was the soup that triggered the nausea.” Dacianaquickly added, I believe to calm him down.

“Wow. She really needs to take this herb as soon as possible so that she doesn’t throw up again. I sincerely hope she can eat something after taking the herbs.” He said, sounding really concerned.

“I believe she’ll be able to. Elara’s prescriptions never go wrong.” Daciana assured him.

“I don’t think any of us should worry. Elara mentioned that she just needed to get some rest.” Mia chimed in.

“Let’s let her sleep then. When she wakes up, we can give the medication to her.” Daciana said. “Go back to your den Tyrus, we’ll ensure she’s well attended to, you don’t have to worry, alright?” She patted Tyrus’ back softly.

“Alright, I trust you all to take care of her. If she needs anything, don’t hesitate to let me know,” Tyrus said. I could hear his voiceresounding with genuine concern.

Daciana smiled warmly at him, “We’ve got it covered, Tyrus. You go back and get some rest too. You’ve done enough for today. I can only imagine how hectic it was to get these herbs.”

“It would have been difficult but in my wolf form, my senses are extremely sharp.” He said, feeling proud of himself.”

“Oh yeah, your kind have pretty sharp senses. Well done.” She replied.

“Thank you. I’ll be on my way now, I’ll check in later.” He said.

As Tyrus left the den, Daciana went to work preparing the herbs, while Mia just sat beside me, playing with my hair as she hummed several songs. I tried to sleep but the scent of the medicinal concoction filled the air in a way that affected my sleep. I just laid there with my eyes shut and I could feel a sense of relief knowing that the herbs will make me feel relief soon enough.

The smell of the concoction became so strong and I sneezed.

“She’s awake.” Mia said in excitement.

Daciana rushed out from the kitchen to come see me. She sensed my apprehension, sat by my side and gently brushed a strand of hair from my face. “Thalia, everything will be fine. Tyrusbrought the herbs, and you’ll feel much better after taking them.”

I managed a weak smile, “Thank you.” I replied.

“The herbs are boiling on fire, do you want to take it now?” she asked.

I nodded in response and she tapped Mia softly. “Go bring some of it.”

Mia rushed out and she approached few minutes later with a small cup containing the herbal remedy.

“Thalia, it’s here. Sit up properly so that you can take this. It might not taste great, but it’ll help with the nausea,”.Dacianasaid as she collected the cup from Mia and offered.

I took it hesitantly and sipped the herbal mixture, trying my best to mask any signs of distaste. Daciana sat beside me, offering silent encouragement. Mia watched me closely, to see what my reaction would be

I gulped it in a hurry and finished the herbal remedy, “I’m done.” I said.

“Wow, that’s impressive.” Daciana said with a smile and she helped me to lay down.Mia took the cup from my hands.

“Now, let’s give it some time to work. You rest, Thalia. We’ll be right here if you need anything.”

My eyes felt really heavy with drowsiness after I took the herbs and shortly after, I fell asleep.
