Chapter 6. A Rebellion

“She’s nobody, Mr. Glenn. Just look at her clothes. There’s no way a wedding guest would come dressed like that,” Alfie cleverly replied, diverting Glenn’s attention.

He successfully convinced his important colleague to follow him to the prepared VVIP table. Unfortunately, they were outpaced by Rebecca, who managed to break free from the two burly men.

Rebecca stood tall before her stepsister, a glass of wine in her right hand-taken from a waiter as she walked over. The pain in her heart made her focus solely on Rowena and Elvis, ignoring everyone else. Even Nelson, who tried to pull her aside and whispered for her to leave, was disregarded.

Her emotions that day could no longer be contained. Anger and disappointment had merged into one. She hadn’t come to vent her rage at being rejected, but specifically to congratulate her ex and her stepsister on their marriage. She almost wanted to laugh at the fate life had dealt her.

Meanwhile, Glenn-standing behind her-was observing Rebecca with curiosity. There was something about her that drew his soul, even though the woman had a rough character and a strong aura of stubbornness.

“Congratulations on your marriage,” Rebecca said with a forced smile. Despite her pain, she managed to display a graceful smile behind the tightness in her chest.

“We don’t need your congratulations. You’d better leave and not cause a scene.” Elvis cruelly dismissed her, his eyes clearly showing hatred and anger. He no longer remembered the sweet memories with Rebecca; all that remained was the incident where she had supposedly cheated on him.

Rebecca laughed, mocking Elvis’s whispered dismissal. “But my little sister really needs her big sister’s congratulations. Isn’t that right, Rowena, my dear sister?”

Rowena forced a smile, though inside she was seething. Her lifelong rival still managed to disturb her happiness. “Why are you doing this? You have to accept reality-”

“What about you, accepting my leftovers?” Rebecca interrupted sarcastically, her tone lazy and dismissive. “You like that sort of thing, don’t you? Well, take it and enjoy! I’m very grateful. Thanks to your interference, I’ve been spared from hypocrites,” she continued cynically, her eyes shooting daggers at Elvis.

Rebecca then handed the wine glass to Rowena. Smiling softly at her stepsister, she added, “Congratulations on your marriage. I hope you’ll never be happy. Please, enjoy the wine. But be careful, I’ve mixed an aphrodisiac into it.”

Her cruel, heartless words shocked Rowena, making her drop the wine glass, spilling it onto her white dress. The stain turned red like blood, as if signaling that the purity of the stolen marriage would be tainted....

“Come on, Rebecca! That’s enough, you’ve shamed me enough!” Nelson was forced to bark, then dragged Rebecca away, satisfied at having ruined the wedding. She was treated like a stranger. Not one of them acknowledged or defended her.

Her dignity was trampled mercilessly, but Rebecca tried not to appear humiliated in the eyes of those who looked down on her. She wasn’t afraid of Rowena’s sharp, vengeful glare. She even dared to defy Nelson, who was forcing her to immediately go to Scotland.

“You dare defy me?”

“Daddy taught me.”

“Rebecca!” Nelson shouted harshly, the veins in his neck bulging. His hand reacted, about to strike her cheek, but suddenly froze in midair.

Rebecca’s heart ached to the bone at Nelson’s arrogant attitude. She was disappointed, not finding a single trace of a father’s love in his eyes. All she saw was a sinister, hateful glare. She was his biological daughter. The girl who carried Nelson’s blood in her thin body. Yet how could he show not a shred of fatherly affection?

“I don’t love you, Daddy,” Rebecca said sincerely. Then, she simply walked away from the party.

The commotion, now resolved, snapped Glenn out of his thoughts as he stood there. Quietly, he pieced together the situation from the words he overheard. Like a puzzle, he assembled the pieces, even if some parts were missing. Yet his intelligence allowed him to read the situation and draw his own conclusions. The woman he had slept with was no ordinary person, but the daughter of a well-known food entrepreneur. Moreover, the woman-whose name he now knew was Rebecca-was suffering deeply from a broken heart after her wedding was called off by a humiliating mistake.

Glenn smiled wryly as his instincts told him that their heated night was connected to Rebecca’s downfall. He no longer felt comfortable and wanted to leave the event immediately.

“This situation isn’t conducive for me to stay long. This is the first time I’ve been welcomed with such embarrassment.” Cunningly, he used the incident as an excuse to put Alfie on the spot.

“Mr. Glenn, I apologize. I hope you’re not offended.” Alfie quickly apologized for what had happened.

Glenn ignored the older man’s words. He left without compromise, no matter who tried to persuade him to stay. With a cold expression and arrogant stride, he made it clear he felt insulted by the host’s treatment.

He put aside the impact of suddenly canceling the business project. Moreover, building a partnership with bad-vibe people like the Daltons would only jeopardize the business he had worked so hard to build.

“Mr. Glenn-”

“That woman earlier is the same woman from that night. She’s the one I thought you arranged to accompany me. She’s also the one who made my nose bleed this morning.”

Eric’s eyes widened in shock at his boss’s confession. He wanted to say something, but Glenn didn’t give him the chance....

“Find out about that woman immediately. Because....” Glenn’s words were cut off by a phone notification. He looked annoyed, wanting to reject the call. But logic told him not to upset the caller.

It was a call from his grandmother.

“Granny....” Glenn greeted, trying to sound polite though his tone betrayed annoyance.

“You’re coming home tomorrow, right? I’ve arranged a blind date for you. She’s the eldest daughter of a pharmaceutical businessman. She’s beautiful. I’ve seen her photo. She also went to Harvard, just like you, Glenn. So make sure you have dinner with her tomorrow night.”

Glenn’s steps halted at his grandmother’s lengthy speech. Not because he wanted to patiently entertain her usual insistence on blind dates, but because his eyes caught sight of someone interesting-Rebecca, slumped against a wall in the hotel lobby. The fierce woman who had caused a scene earlier now looked fragile. Her face was wet with tears and pale, as if she had lost all energy.

Glenn pressed his lips together and locked his gaze on Rebecca. His mind was already formulating a plan that could save him from his grandmother’s pressure.

“Glenn! Cat got your tongue?” his grandmother’s shout hurt his ears.

“I can’t come to that blind date tomorrow night.”

“Did you forget, Glenn? I’d rather starve and die than keep putting up with your stubbornness!” his grandmother threatened, as she always did.

“Granny....”

“What?”

“I already have someone in mind, so I can’t come tomorrow night,” Glenn said calmly, but with an unexpected plan in mind.
