Chapter 5: The War Over Me
Lyra’s POV
“She is the lost Luna of the ancient bloodline.”
The words hit the room like thunder and I stopped breathing.
My wolf rose inside me and she moved back and forth like she wanted to run and fight at the same time.
Lost Luna, Ancient bloodline.
My head spun, and Darius stood in the doorway, his eyes glowed and power rolled off him like a storm and then Kael stepped in front of me.
“You talk too much,” Kael said but Darius did not move.
“You hide too much,” Darius replied and my heart beat faster and then both men stared at each other and no one blinked.
They then looked like enemies ready to fight and Kael’s voice grew hard.
“You came to my pack for alliance talks.”
“Yes.”
“Then remember where you are.”
Darius then gave a short laugh. “I remember very well.”
His eyes then moved to me again.
“That is why I came.”
Kael’s hand lifted a little, it was like he was ready to shift if needed.
“You will leave my territory now.”
Darius then raised an eyebrow.
“Or what?”
“Or I will make you leave.”
The air in the room grew heavy and my wolf whimpered.
Two Alphas, both were strong and both were angry, of they fought, this place would not survive it.
Darius then finally took a step forward.
“I am not leaving.”
Kael’s eyes flashed.
“You do not have a choice.”
Darius’s voice dropped. “Oh, I do.” Kael scoffed.
“Explain.”
Darius crossed his arms.
“Lyra does not belong to you.”
My chest tightened but Kael answered right away.
“She is my Luna.”
“You tried to reject her.”
“The ritual was not completed.”
Darius then shook his head.
“You only delayed it.”
Kael then stepped closer to him.
“And you think you can take her?”
Darius looked him straight in the eye.
“Yes.”
My breath caught and Kael laughed once.
“That will never happen.”
Darius’s face then grew serious.
“She was promised to my pack long before you claimed her.”
The room fell silent and I blinked.
“What?”
The word then slipped from my mouth before I could stop it and both Alphas looked at me and Kael frowned.
“What are you talking about?”
Darius answered slowly.
“An old prophecy.”
The word prophecy sent chills through my body and Kael’s eyes narrowed.
“Prophecies are old stories.”
“Not this one.”
Darius then pointed toward me.
“The ancient Luna bloodline will return.”
My fingers curled.
“And when she does,” he continued, “she will unite the werewolf world.”
Kael scoffed.
“Or destroy it.”
Darius nodded once. “Yes.”
The room grew silent again and then my heart beat faster.
“Unite or destroy.” And then my wolf shifted inside me, she did not understand these big words, but she felt the danger and Kael shook his head.
“So you believe this prophecy belongs to her.”
“Yes.”
“And that means she belongs to you?”
Darius did not hesitate.
“Yes.”
Kael’s patience broke.
“You are insane.”
Darius’s voice grew deeper.
“No. I am prepared.”
He took another step forward.
“My pack has waited for the return of the ancient bloodline.”
Kael’s eyes burned.
“Well, you waited for nothing.”
He then placed a hand on my shoulder. “Because she is already mine.”
My chest tightened and Darius looked at Kael’s hand and then he said something that made my wolf stir again.
“My mate will return to me.”
“Mate.”
The word hit my chest again and Kael laughed.
“Your mate?”
Darius’s eyes glowed.
“Yes.”
“You met her one hour ago.”
“The bond does not lie.”
Kael’s voice rose. “She is my Luna!” “And my mate.”
Both Alphas stood face to face now and neither stepped back and I stood behind Kael and my heart felt like it would jump out of my chest.
“Stop,” I whispered but they did not hear me and then Kael spoke again.
“She will stay here.”
Darius answered. “I will take her.” “No.” “Yes.”
The tension in the room was ready to explode and I finally raised my voice.
“Enough!”
Both men looked at me and my chest rose and fell.
“I am not a prize you fight over.”
Neither of them spoke and then suddenly a laugh filled the room, it was a woman’s laughter. It was slow and sharp and all three of us turned.
Serena then stood near the door but I did not even hear her enter and her arms were crossed and then her eyes shone with amusement.
“You two are entertaining.”
Kael frowned.
“Serena, this does not concern you.”
She laughed again.
“Oh, it concerns me very much.”
Darius then watched her carefully.
“Explain.”
Serena pushed herself off the wall and walked closer.
“You fools are fighting over the wrong Luna.”
The words froze the room and Kael stared at her.
“What did you say?”
Serena smiled. “You heard me.”
Darius’s eyes narrowed.
“What game are you playing?”
She then stopped in front of us and her gaze moved to me and then something changed and her eyes began to glow.
It was dark red and my wolf jerked inside me.
It was danger, pure danger and Kael noticed too.
“Serena… what is wrong with your eyes?”
She ignored him and instead she stepped closer to me andI moved back without thinking but the wall stopped me and her smile grew wider.
“Such a beautiful bloodline.”
My heart rang.
“What do you mean?”
She leaned closer.
“So fragile.”
Kael grabbed her arm.
“Step away from her.”
Serena slowly turned her head toward him and her red eyes shone brighter.
“You still do not understand anything, do you?”
Kael tightened his grip.
“Explain yourself.”
She laughed again and then she dropped the truth like a bomb.
“I am the one who killed the last Ancient Luna.”
The world stopped and my ears rang and then Kael released her arm and Darius went still.
I then stared at her.
“You… what?”
Serena’s smile grew darker.
“Yes.”
My wolf trembled.
“Why?” I whispered and Serena stepped closer again.
“Because that bloodline must end.”
Fear ran through my body.
“Why?”
Her eyes locked on mine.
“Because it is dangerous.”
Kael then stepped between us again.
“You are lying.”
Serena shook her head.
“No.”
Darius studied her.
“Then why come back now?”
Serena answered without hesitation.
“To finish the bloodline.”
The room was like it was spinning and my wolf whimpered.
Serena walked closer to me, very close now and I tried to move away but could not but her face stopped near my ear and then she whispered.
“And you’re the last one left.”
